What they need

We are recruiting a Process Engineer to support safe, efficient and reliable plant operations through technical troubleshooting, process optimization and continuous improvement.

Our client is a global manufacturer of specialty resins, gelcoats and additives serving the plastics and composites industry. Its products support applications across building materials, corrosion-resistant infrastructure, recreation, transportation and wind energy.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will provide daily technical support to manufacturing, resolve process and equipment issues, improve batch performance and support Emerson Delta Distributed Control System (DCS) enhancements.

You will work closely with Production, Maintenance and Engineering to reduce downtime, improve operational performance and maintain consistent product quality. The role may also provide operational supervision during Manufacturing Supervisor absences.

Key Responsibilities

Process Engineering and Operational Support

  • Provide daily technical support to manufacturing, troubleshooting process, equipment, instrumentation and quality issues.
  • Monitor production schedules alongside Manufacturing Supervisors and Scheduling to anticipate delays, resolve constraints and meet production targets.
  • Monitor batch operations through Emerson DeltaV DCS, analyze cycle times and recommend process adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot DCS issues and support programming, configuration and system improvements.
  • Review and manage DCS alarms, including safety-critical activations and operating-envelope excursions, and implement appropriate corrective actions.

Safety, Quality and Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture and comply with established safety policies, procedures and PSM requirements.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), risk assessments and other process-safety activities.
  • Support safety, health, environmental and quality incident investigations, including root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support the quality management system through internal ISO 9001 audits and continuous improvement activities

Maintenance, Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Work with Maintenance and Plant Engineering to diagnose equipment and instrumentation issues, identify repairs and support corrective and preventive maintenance.
  • Support plant improvements and small capital or operational projects, including equipment upgrades, process modifications and system enhancements.
  • Develop, review and maintain manufacturing procedures, standard operating procedures and process documentation.
  • Provide production oversight during Manufacturing Supervisor absences, with occasional shift work as required

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • At least one year of experience in a chemical manufacturing or processing environment. Relevant co-op or internship experience will be considered.
  • Understanding of chemical manufacturing processes, process-safety principles and industrial equipment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across Operations, Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and contribute within a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to work occasional shifts as operational needs require.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • Authorization to work in the United States

Additional Relevant Experience

  • Emerson DeltaV DCS, including troubleshooting, programming or process monitoring.
  • Aspen process simulation or optimization software.
  • PSM requirements and PHA methodologies.
  • ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards.
  • SAP or a similar ERP system.
  • Continuous improvement within chemical manufacturing
