What they need
Process Operator | Renewable Energy
Western Ohio | Full-time | On-site
We’re partnering with a growing renewable energy business that turns organic waste streams into energy. Its facilities combine industrial processing, environmental treatment and energy recovery, helping customers reduce waste and support more sustainable operations.
The business is hiring a hands-on Process Operator to help run its facility in Western Ohio. This is an opportunity to apply your technical skills in the renewable energy sector, working with the equipment and processes that support reliable energy production.
Previous wastewater or renewable energy experience is not essential. We welcome candidates from chemical processing, manufacturing, plant operations and industrial maintenance who bring practical equipment knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills and a willingness to learn.
The opportunity
You’ll support the day-to-day operation of an integrated treatment and energy recovery facility, helping keep its equipment running safely and its processes performing efficiently.
Your work will directly support the conversion of organic material into renewable energy. This involves monitoring process conditions, maintaining equipment reliability and responding to changes that could affect treatment performance or energy output.
The role combines practical plant operations with process monitoring, preventative maintenance and problem-solving. You’ll work closely with colleagues, contractors and equipment suppliers, developing specialist knowledge across renewable energy and industrial treatment systems.
Key responsibilities
Plant operations and energy production
- Operate and monitor pumps, motors, tanks, piping, filtration equipment and chemical dosing systems.
- Monitor treatment and energy recovery processes to maintain safe, stable operations.
- Track operating conditions, including flow, temperature, pressure and pH.
- Monitor energy output and other performance indicators, identifying changes that require investigation.
- Respond to alarms and make process adjustments within established operating procedures.
- Support the receiving, transfer and processing of incoming materials.
- Collect samples, record readings and help assess process performance.
- Communicate plant conditions, outstanding issues and maintenance requirements during handovers.
Maintenance and troubleshooting
- Complete routine equipment inspections and identify signs of wear, faults or reduced performance.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues that could affect plant availability or energy production.
- Support preventative maintenance and basic repairs to minimise unplanned downtime.
- Record maintenance activity and equipment requirements through a computerised maintenance management system.
- Work with contractors and specialist technicians during servicing, repairs and equipment installation.
- Monitor stocks of chemicals, consumables and spare parts.
Safety, compliance and improvement
- Follow site operating procedures, chemical handling requirements and safe systems of work.
- Carry out safety inspections and report hazards, incidents and near misses.
- Support environmental compliance activities and maintain accurate operational records.
- Keep equipment and work areas clean, organised and accessible.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, treatment efficiency and renewable energy output.
Your background
You may currently be working as a Chemical Operator, Process Operator, Production Operator, Plant Operator or Industrial Maintenance Technician and be looking to move into renewable energy.
We’re looking for:
- 3-10 years of relevant experience in chemical processing, manufacturing, industrial operations, renewable energy or maintenance.
- Practical knowledge of equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, piping and tanks.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to recognise abnormal equipment or process conditions.
- Experience following operating procedures and working safely around industrial machinery and chemicals.
- Confidence managing routine tasks while responding to changing operational priorities.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work independently and alongside colleagues, contractors and suppliers.
- Basic computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, digital records and maintenance reporting.
- A valid driving licence
Preferred experience
The following would be beneficial, but are not essential:
- Renewable energy, biogas, wastewater treatment or biological processing.
- PLCs, automated controls and process instrumentation.
- Chemical dosing, filtration or solids handling equipment.
- Preventative maintenance and CMMS software.
- Working with electricians, welders, plumbers or commissioning technicians.
- An Ohio Grade II Industrial Wastewater Operator certificate or higher.
Wastewater experience is preferred, rather than required. You should be willing to learn the treatment processes that support energy recovery and obtain and maintain the relevant operator certification.
