Process / Pyrolysis Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Process / Pyrolysis Engineer to join GRAND NOIR RESOURCES SDN BHD on a full-time basis at our facility in Raub, Pahang. This is a strategic position within our Process Engineering department, responsible for optimising and managing our pyrolysis processes to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and product quality. You will play a crucial role in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our thermal treatment processes, contributing directly to our operational excellence and sustainability objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise pyrolysis processes and equipment specifications to meet production targets and quality standards
• Monitor and control process parameters including temperature, pressure, residence time, and feedstock composition to ensure consistent product output
• Conduct process simulations, modelling, and analysis using engineering software to predict performance and identify improvement opportunities
• Implement and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical specifications
• Perform root cause analysis on process deviations and equipment failures, implementing corrective and preventive actions
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot technical issues and improve plant reliability
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations specific to pyrolysis operations
• Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for process-related hazards
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies, equipment, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
• Prepare technical reports, performance metrics, and recommendations for process optimisation
• Provide technical support and training to operations staff on process parameters and equipment operation

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
• Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in process engineering, ideally within thermal treatment, pyrolysis, or waste management sectors
• Strong knowledge of pyrolysis technology, including reactor types, operating principles, and process control
• Experience with process simulation software (such as Aspen Plus, COMSOL, or equivalent) and data analysis tools
• Proficiency in design software (CAD, process flow diagrams) and Microsoft Office applications
• Solid understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mass balance principles
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and emissions control related to pyrolysis operations
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
• Professional certification (such as Chartered Engineer status or equivalent) is highly desirable
• Experience with HAZOP studies, process safety management, and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) would be advantageous
