Process Safety Engineer

Key Responsibilities - FEED

§  Develop the Process Safety / Technical Safety Design Basis, philosophies, study plan, risk criteria, ALARP framework and safety-assurance schedule.

§  Plan, facilitate or support HAZID, HAZOP, ENVID, LOPA/SIL, bowtie, human-factors, dropped-object, SIMOPS and other hazard studies; maintain action traceability.

§  Perform or manage fire, explosion, gas dispersion, smoke/toxic dispersion, blowdown/depressurization and escape/evacuation analyses appropriate to project maturity.

§  Develop fire and gas detection philosophy, active/passive fire-protection requirements, hazardous-area inputs, blast/fire zoning, escape routes, muster and temporary refuge requirements.

§  Identify safety-critical elements/performance standards and define barrier assurance, survivability, impairment and verification requirements.

§  Support inherently safer design, layout/segregation, inventory minimization, ignition control, isolation, drainage, ventilation and emergency-response decisions.

§  Develop safety studies and regulatory/safety-case inputs; demonstrate that major accident risks are reduced to ALARP with an auditable decisions register.

§  Review PFDs/P&IDs, layouts, cause-and-effects, shutdown/depressurization, relief/flare, firewater and lifesaving-system designs for risk-control adequacy.

Key Responsibilities - EPCI, Construction and Commissioning

§  Maintain the hazard register, ALARP demonstration, safety-action register, safety-critical element registers and performance standards as design changes.

§  Review detailed F&G coverage, firewater hydraulics, passive fire protection, blast/fire ratings, escape/evacuation, lifesaving and emergency-response deliverables.

§  Verify that HAZOP/LOPA/SIL and quantitative-study recommendations are correctly implemented in design, vendor packages, logic and operating documentation.

§  Assess management-of-change proposals, deviations and temporary arrangements for major-accident risk and barrier impacts.

§  Support safety reviews of vendor packages, model reviews, construction methods, SIMOPS, offshore installation and commissioning/start-up activities.

§  Witness or review barrier and functional tests, F&G mapping/coverage verification, deluge tests, ESD/blowdown tests and safety-critical commissioning evidence.

§  Support regulatory/classification engagement, safety-case updates, pre-start-up safety review and final barrier assurance/handover.
