Job Description

Accountability

The Process Worker cum Driver is accountable to the Store Supervisor / Manager, RSI, for the proper performance of assigned duties, safe handling and transportation of goods, responsible use of Salvation Army vehicles, and compliance with relevant Salvation Army policies and procedures.

1. Job Purpose

To support the day-to-day operations of the Family Thrift Store through the receiving, sorting and processing of donated goods, store support, and the collection and transportation of donations and goods.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Donation Processing & Store Support

• Receive, sort and process donated goods at the processing centre.
• Check the condition and suitability of items for resale, recycling or disposal.
• Carry out basic visual inspection and minor electrical safety testing of donated electrical appliances, using approved procedures and equipment, and identify items that are unsafe or unsuitable for resale.
• Move sorted goods from the processing centre to the store.
• Assist with replenishing stock and maintaining an orderly store and warehouse.
• Assist with loading and unloading goods.
• Maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas.

B. Driving & Collection

• Drive Salvation Army vehicles for authorised work purposes.
• Collect donations from homes, businesses and designated collection points.
• Deliver or transport goods as required.
• Ensure goods are properly secured during transportation.
• Maintain accurate travel and vehicle records.
• Keep the assigned vehicle clean and report any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
• Ensure the vehicle is serviced and inspected according to the required schedule.

C. General Duties

• Assist customers, donors, volunteers and staff when required.
• Follow all health, safety and operational procedures.
• Handle donated goods and Salvation Army property responsibly.
• Maintain a positive and professional manner when dealing with customers, donors and members of the public.
• Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Store Supervisor / Manager, RSI.

Qualifications

3. Qualifications, Requirements & Working Conditions

• Minimum SPM or equivalent.
• Possess a valid Malaysian driving licence and a valid Goods Driving Licence (GDL), and be able to drive safely and responsibly.• Physically fit and able to lift, carry, load and move donated goods.
• Able to work at the Family Thrift Store, processing centre, and travel to various locations for donation collection and transportation.
• Comfortable working in different environments, including loading areas and outdoor locations, and able to work in hot, humid and non-air-conditioned environments.
• Responsible, trustworthy and reliable, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous experience in retail, warehouse, logistics or donation processing is an advantage.
