What they need

Love keeping stock accurate, suppliers accountable and things running to plan?

This is a hands-on role where you'll have real ownership across procurement, inventory, supplier relationships and inbound freight for an established New Zealand manufacturer.

Acorn Manufacturing Group is looking for an experienced procurement or inventory professional who's organised, switched-on and enjoys solving problems.

You'll enjoy this role if you like:

  • Taking ownership and being trusted to get on with it
  • Investigating stock discrepancies and finding the answer
  • Building strong relationships with suppliers
  • Juggling priorities in a busy manufacturing environment
  • Improving processes rather than accepting "that's how we've always done it"

The Role

Reporting to the Finance & Support Services Manager, you'll help ensure production has the materials and components it needs, when it needs them.

You'll manage the purchase order lifecycle, maintain accurate inventory, work closely with suppliers and coordinate incoming freight and logistics.

It's a busy role and priorities can change quickly. You'll need to be comfortable keeping your regular work on track while responding to supplier issues, production requirements and the occasional curveball.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Raising and managing purchase orders and backorders
  • Following up suppliers, orders and delivery dates
  • Checking invoices against POs and resolving pricing discrepancies
  • Maintaining accurate stock and inventory records
  • Supporting stocktakes and investigating variances
  • Managing safety stock and reorder information
  • Completing end-of-month inventory reporting and balancing
  • Managing supplier quality issues, credits and returns
  • Coordinating airfreight, seafreight and inbound deliveries
  • Identifying ways to improve procurement and inventory processes

You'll work across the business with Production, Operations, Warehouse, Dispatch, Sales and Finance, as well as suppliers and freight providers.

About You

You'll already have experience in procurement, purchasing, inventory, stock control or supply chain and be ready to hit the ground running.

You're someone who notices when something doesn't look right – and investigates it.

If the system says there should be 120 units but there are only 93, you won't simply adjust the number. You'll want to know where the other 27 went and how to stop it happening again. That's the type of thinking Acorn is looking for.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Previous procurement, purchasing or inventory experience
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience with ERP or inventory systems
  • Confidence using Excel and Microsoft 365
  • Strong organisation and time management
  • Confidence dealing directly with suppliers
  • The ability to investigate discrepancies and solve problems
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Clear, professional communication
  • A calm approach when things get busy

Manufacturing experience would be an advantage, as would exposure to freight, importing or bills of materials – but they're not necessarily deal-breakers for someone with strong core experience.

About Acorn

Acorn Manufacturing Group is a leading New Zealand manufacturer of premium commercial and residential furniture, managing everything from design and manufacturing through to nationwide delivery.

Based in Motueka, this is a family-owned business with a flat structure, a hardworking team and a culture where people are trusted to take responsibility for their work.

They're looking for someone who fits their philosophy of being hungry, humble and smart – motivated to get things done, willing to learn and able to work well with others.

If you're looking for a role where you can take ownership, solve problems and become an important part of a growing NZ manufacturer, we'd like to hear from you.

This is an onsite position, and you'll need to be able to work from Acorn's Motueka operation. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
