Procurement and planning engineer

About the role

This role involves sourcing and purchasing raw materials, packaging materials and other production requirements. You will request quotations, compare suppliers based on price, quality, lead time, MOQ and payment terms, and negotiate with suppliers to issue Purchase Orders and follow up on delivery status. You will monitor stock levels, identify material shortages and plan material requirements in coordination with the production team. You will also work with engineering and R&D to verify technical specifications and suitability of alternative components, monitor production progress, and manage purchasing, supplier and planning records.

Key responsibilities

• Source and purchase raw materials, packaging materials and other production requirements
• Request quotations and compare price, quality, lead time, MOQ and payment terms
• Negotiate with suppliers, issue Purchase Orders (PO) and follow up closely on delivery status
• Monitor stock levels, identify material shortages and plan material requirements
• Coordinate with production team, prepare and update production schedules
• Work with engineering/R&D to verify technical specifications and suitability of alternative components
• Monitor production progress and highlight possible delays
• Maintain purchasing, supplier and planning records
• Support cost reduction and inventory control activities
• Manage material purchases and coordinate with account/finance for payment and record-keeping

About you

• Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical/Electronic Engineering
• Knowledge of electronic components is an advantage
• Basic knowledge of inventory control, material planning and production planning is preferred
• Good communication skills, with strong planning, coordination and follow-up abilities
• Able to handle multiple tasks, urgent purchases and changing production priorities
• Detail-oriented, responsible and able to work independently
• Ability to communicate in Mandarin is an advantage for dealing with suppliers in China
