**About the Role**

We are building a brand-new optical manufacturing plant in Melaka and looking for a hands-on Procurement Engineer to own supplier development, sourcing, and material cost control for mechanical components and optical lenses. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape the supply chain of a growing precision optics business.

**Key Responsibilities**

• Develop and onboard new suppliers to diversify and strengthen the supplier base

• Ensure on-time delivery (OTD) of mechanical components and optical lenses

• Optimize mechanical procurement and sourcing across all materials and components

• Evaluate, qualify, and develop suppliers against technical and quality requirements

• Review engineering drawings to verify compliance with customer specs, safety standards, and technical requirements

• Conduct regular safety briefings and risk assessments; drive corrective actions for non-compliance

• Manage supplier import processes, shipping documentation, and delivery scheduling

• Ensure full compliance with internal SOPs and audit requirements; safeguard product quality

• Monitor and control material costs

• Establish and implement supplier Kanban and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) agreements

• Define team responsibilities, role clarity, and performance objectives

**Requirements**

• Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Optoelectronics, or a related engineering discipline

• 5+ years of procurement experience, preferably in precision manufacturing or engineering

• Solid understanding of procurement operations management

• Strong ability to read mechanical drawings, symbols, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

• Hands-on experience with milling and turning processes and equipment

• Knowledge of metal surface treatment processes

• Ability to interpret machining processes and CNC programming

• Experience conducting supplier audits and capability assessments

• Established local network in hardware raw materials, precision parts, and equipment markets (machining, metal, plastic components)

• Strong communication and coordination skills; familiar with MRP & ERP systems

• Fluent in English and Chinese
