What they need

About the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)

For almost a century, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has been delivering life-changing care to the most remote parts of Australia. Today, we provide aeromedical emergency retrievals, primary health care, mental health, and dental services to more than seven million people who live, work and travel across rural and remote Australia.

Based in Canberra, the RFDS Federation Office is the national coordinating body for the RFDS network. We lead engagement with the Commonwealth Government, advocate for improved health outcomes in rural and remote Australia, and drive strategic collaboration across the organisation. As an organisation in our own right, we also oversee our own governance, corporate operations and activities.

About the Role

Canberra (in-office) | Full-Time

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this highly visible standalone role plays a pivotal part in shaping procurement across the RFDS Federation. Working with leaders across RFDS Sections, you will lead the development and delivery of a national procurement strategy and end-to-end procurement framework that supports critical services across aviation, healthcare, fundraising, digital and technology, and corporate operations.

This is not a traditional procurement position. It is an opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, coordinate procurement activities on a national scale, build capability across a complex federated environment, and create lasting value through innovative sourcing, collaboration and best-practice procurement approaches.

What You'll Be Doing

You will:

  • Develop and implement a national procurement strategy and procurement framework.
  • Identify and lead strategic sourcing opportunities that deliver cost competitiveness, innovation and operational efficiencies.
  • Partner with senior leaders and stakeholders across the Federation to build procurement capability and embed best practice.
  • Lead major tenders, supplier negotiations and contract management activities.
  • Establish reporting, analytics and governance frameworks that enable informed decision-making and transparency.
  • Drive supplier performance, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives nationwide.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a commercially astute and influential procurement professional who can bring strategic thinking, strong stakeholder engagement skills and a proven track record of delivering procurement transformation.

You will ideally possess:

  • 10+ years' experience leading procurement functions and delivering strategic procurement outcomes.
  • Strong experience in strategic sourcing, contract management and supplier negotiations.
  • Demonstrated success building procurement capability and driving organisational change.
  • Outstanding analytical, commercial and technology skills.
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, Logistics, Contract Law or a related discipline.
  • MCIPS accreditation or active CIPS membership will be highly regarded.

Experience in healthcare, aviation, not-for-profit organisations or complex federated operating environments will be highly regarded.

Why join us

  • Join an iconic Australian purpose-driven organisation

  • Small, agile team where your impact is visible

  • Generous salary packaging benefits as a not-for-profit organisation.

  • Christmas leave and free on-site car parking in Canberra's CBD.
