Procurement Manager

Position Overview

To lead and manage the company's procurement function, ensuring the reliable, cost-effective, and timely sourcing of materials, processing chemicals, packaging materials, spare parts, equipment, and services required for business operations.

The Procurement Manager is responsible for developing procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating commercial terms, controlling procurement costs, mitigating supply chain risks, and ensuring compliance with company policies and approval procedures.

The role works closely with Production, Quality Control, Warehouse, Finance, Maintenance, and Sales to ensure uninterrupted operations, consistent material quality, efficient inventory management, and sustainable business profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Developing and implementing procurement strategies aligned with business objectives and operational requirements.

• Identifying, evaluating, qualifying, and managing local and international suppliers.

• Negotiating prices, contracts, payment terms, delivery schedules, and other commercial conditions.

• Managing the procurement of raw materials, including clay, processing chemicals, and other inputs, where applicable, as well as packaging, spare parts, equipment, and services.

• Ensuring material availability to support production plans and customer delivery commitments.

• Monitoring supplier performance, material quality, delivery reliability, and procurement costs.

• Working with QC and Technical teams to ensure materials meet approved specifications and required documentation standards.

• Monitoring inventory levels, safety stock, reorder points, material consumption, and slow-moving stock in coordination with Warehouse and Planning.

• Analysing total landed costs, foreign exchange exposure, freight charges, and other procurement-related expenses.

• Identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality, safety, or supply reliability.

• Developing alternative sources for critical materials and implementing supplier risk mitigation plans.

• Ensuring procurement transactions comply with internal policies, budgets, delegated authority, and applicable regulatory requirements.

• Maintaining accurate procurement records, supplier contracts, purchase orders, quotations, and supplier performance reports.

• Leading and developing procurement personnel and establishing appropriate performance targets.

• Preparing procurement budgets, cost analyses, supplier evaluations, and periodic management reports.

• Supporting continuous improvement in procurement processes, inventory efficiency, and working capital management.

Job Requirements:

• Candidate must possess at least a Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related discipline.

• Minimum 5–8 years of procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with relevant supervisory or managerial experience.

• Experience in material sourcing, supplier negotiations, contract management, and local and international procurement.

• Knowledge of inventory management, cost analysis, logistics, and import procedures.

• Experience using ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.

• Experience in chemicals, minerals, industrial materials, or process manufacturing is an advantage.

• Position is to be based in Ipoh.
