Functional Reporting General Manager MEP
ROLE PURPOSE
The Procurement Manager MEP holds single-point accountability for the sourcing, procurement, subcontracting and supply chain performance of the MEP business across East Africa. The role is responsible for ensuring that materials, equipment, services and subcontract works are procured competitively, delivered on schedule, comply with technical requirements and support the profitability objectives of the business.
The role exists because MEP EPC projects are won on estimate but delivered through procurement. Material costs represent a substantial proportion of project expenditure, supplier performance directly affects project schedules, and procurement decisions have long-term consequences on project margins, cash flow and client satisfaction. The Procurement Manager is therefore accountable for ensuring that procurement contributes positively to both project execution and commercial performance.
Because the role operates at the intersection of project delivery, commercial control and supply chain management, the incumbent is expected to influence supplier selection, tender support, sourcing strategy, contract negotiations and procurement governance before commitments are made. The role must be equally capable of negotiating strategic supply agreements, validating procurement strategies, controlling supply chain risks and supporting project teams in achieving delivery objectives.
The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer for operational direction and works closely with Project Management, Tendering & Business Development, Finance, Contracts and Stores functions to ensure efficient and commercially sound project execution.
