What they need

Christchurch

Join a business that's helping grow the future of New Zealand agriculture.

PGG Wrightson (PGW) has been working alongside New Zealand farmers and growers for over 175 years. With 1,800 team members across Aotearoa and deep roots in our rural communities, we're proud of the work we do and the people who make it possible.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Procurement Specialist to join our Group Operations team based in Christchurch. Reporting to the Procurement Transformation Manager, this role will play a key part in advancing procurement capability, driving commercial value, strengthening supplier performance, and supporting procurement transformation initiatives across the business.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who combines strong commercial acumen with a passion for continuous improvement, data-driven decision making and creating sustainable value across a diverse supplier portfolio.

About the role

As Procurement Specialist, you'll work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to deliver strategic procurement outcomes that create measurable financial and non-financial value.

You'll lead procurement projects from end to end, support procurement governance and reporting frameworks, and help embed best-practice procurement processes that improve visibility, efficiency, compliance, and supplier performance.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading procurement activities and sourcing projects across a range of categories
  • Conducting spend analysis, market research, and category reviews to identify opportunities
  • Managing sourcing and contract processes from development through to evaluation and contract award
  • Supporting supplier relationship management, performance reviews and service level agreements
  • Assist with developing reporting dashboards that support informed decision making
  • Identifying opportunities for automation and digital procurement improvements
  • Contributing to procurement governance, policies, frameworks and business planning

About you

You'll be a proactive and commercially minded procurement professional who enjoys influencing outcomes and delivering tangible business value.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • At least 5 years' procurement experience
  • Strong knowledge of procurement methodologies, sourcing practices, supplier management and governance frameworks
  • Demonstrated success negotiating contracts, delivering measurable procurement savings and improving supplier performance
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and generate meaningful insights
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Experience developing business cases, reports and recommendations for senior stakeholders
  • Knowledge of procurement governance, compliance and best-practice frameworks
  • Understanding of sustainability, health and safety, and ESG considerations within procurement along with advanced Microsoft Office skills

A relevant tertiary qualification and experience with category management principles will be highly regarded.

What you'll enjoy

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative and future-focused team where you'll have the ability to influence change, contribute to procurement transformation initiatives, and make a genuine impact across the wider business.

In return, you'll enjoy:

  • A varied and strategic procurement role with exposure to business wide initiatives and key stakeholder groups
  • Opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement and digital transformation projects
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment with ongoing professional development opportunities

If you're an experienced procurement professional looking to take the next step in a role where you can influence strategy, drive value, and help shape procurement excellence, we'd love to hear from you.
