What they need
Overview
As Britain’s biggest power product supplier, we are expanding our test facility in Alfreton, so are recruiting an additional test engineer.
The successful applicants will ideally have a minimum of a HNC in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or equivalent. They will have experience of testing to a recognised British standard. They will have a keen eye for detail, they will be hands on, and have the flexibility to test anything from a wood burning stove to a petrol-powered jet wash, a hydraulic trolley jack to a demolition hammer.
The applicant will not only have good engineering knowledge but will be familiar with the type of products in the extensive Clarke range and will have used them in either an industrial or a DIY environment. They will have good communication skills, be computer literate and have an excellent command of Microsoft Office, Word, and excel. Report writing is a critical part of this role.
This position requires the test engineer to test and assess new or existing products for Fit, Form and Function, to essentially check that it does what it claims to do, that it is safe and it complies with EU directives or UK regulations. A report is then written highlighting the product's positive features and non-compliances, presenting the test results with photographs, tables and graphs.
Previously suitable applicants have had a background of testing, quality inspection, mechanical or electrical design, apprentice trained auto/electrical mechanic.

- Document testing procedures, results, and defect reports clearly and thoroughly for transparency and future reference.
- Continuously improve testing methodologies by integrating new tools, techniques, and industry best practices.
- Support product launches by validating that all quality standards are met before release.
Requirements
- Proven experience in quality assurance within a product development environment.
- Strong analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with testing tools, automation frameworks, and defect tracking systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying issues early.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced team while managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is preferred but not mandatory.
