What they need
We’re looking for a hands-on Produce Manager who takes pride in fresh food, sets high standards and can lead a team to deliver a department our customers love shopping in.
Produce is an important part of our neighbourhood store. We’ve invested in the department’s fixtures and presentation, and we’re looking for someone who will take ownership of its quality, availability and performance.
About the role
You’ll lead the day-to-day operation of our produce department, working alongside your team to:
- Deliver fresh, full and appealing displays throughout the day.
- Manage ordering and stock levels around seasonal changes, promotions and customer demand.
- Maintain quality through careful handling, stock rotation and regular checks.
- Grow sales and manage gross profit, waste and department costs.
- Plan the team’s daily work, set clear expectations and train people to do the job well.
- Maintain food safety, cleanliness and safe working practices.
- Provide friendly service and respond to customer feedback.
This is a practical leadership role. You’ll be on the floor with your team, setting the example and getting stuck in, while keeping on top of the numbers and planning ahead.
About you
You’ll bring:
- Experience in a supermarket produce department, with a good understanding of fresh produce quality and handling.
- Strong ordering, stock management and organisational skills.
- The ability to lead, train and motivate a team.
- An eye for presentation and the initiative to put things right without waiting to be asked.
- A practical understanding of how availability, waste and margin affect department performance.
- Clear communication, reliability and pride in your work.
You may already be a Produce Manager, or an experienced Produce 2IC ready to take the next step. We’re interested in someone who can build a strong team and consistently deliver a department they’re proud of.
