What they need

About us...

Since 1988, PTL has been designing and manufacturing specialized equipment for chocolate and bar production, serving industry leaders worldwide. Our "We build with you™" philosophy defines everything we do—from initial concept through to installation and ongoing support.

Our collaborative, adaptable approach means we embrace change and provide tailored solutions to meet specific production needs, prioritizing food safety, precise process control, and operational excellence in everything we build.

This commitment to innovation and partnership started with our founder, Jim Halliday. Today, under the leadership of Nick Halliday, PTL continues to thrive—earning a reputation for design excellence and delivering solutions built from proven platforms that help our customers succeed.

We’re excited to have successfully moved into our brand-new, purpose-built Mt Wellington premises. Designed and fully fitted out to support the way we work, the new facility streamlines workflows, enhances collaboration, and drives greater operational efficiencies across the business. This milestone marks an important step forward, providing our team with a modern, integrated environment that supports productivity, innovation, and continued growth.

About the role

The Product Data Administrator is responsible for the ongoing accuracy and integrity of PTL's part data, including the SolidWorks PDM library, internal part numbers and supplier part numbers. This role maintains part numbering/description standards, library-part status, and metadata so that engineering, design, procurement, and manufacturing staff can rely on a single, accurate source of part data across the business.

A major focus of this role is the systematic removal of duplicate parts from the PDM library identifying components that are functionally and dimensionally identical but held under different part numbers, promoting the correct part to standard part status, and obsoleting the duplicates. This is an ongoing project expected to occupy a significant portion of the role over an extended period.

This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week for an initial period of 6 months that has a possibility to extend to 12 months.

Key responsibilities

  • Vault administration - maintain SolidWorks PDM vault in line with PTL's established standards
  • Maintain accurate part numbering, metadata, and BOM data across the PDM system, and keep this aligned with supplier and internal part records in other business systems
  • Check parts against standards and flag non-compliant ones
  • Model, correct, and standardise library parts in line with PTL's modelling standards, keeping models as lean as possible
  • Perform regular audits of the vault and part records to identify inconsistencies, missing metadata, or non-standard parts
  • Investigate and resolve part and supplier data discrepancies, liaising with Procurement, Design, and suppliers to confirm correct specifications, part numbers, and 3D model accuracy
  • Provide day-to-day PDM support to design staff
  • Work through the candidate list produced by the duplicate detection tool, reviewing each flagged group of parts in turn
  • Recommend the part to retain, for approval by the Process Improvement Manager
  • Promote the retained part to library-part status and update assemblies, drawings, and BOMs to reference it

About you

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with SolidWorks
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and 3D models
  • A logical, methodical mindset, and the confidence to work within a controlled data environment
  • An understanding that library parts are modelled to a different standard than one-off design parts or a clear willingness to work that way
  • Computer literate, with MS Excel skills for data analysis and tracking
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Comfortable with detailed, systematic work over an extended period, and motivated by getting the data correct
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organised, with strong planning and prioritising skills
