Product design engineer

About the role

Job Summary:

We are seeking a technically strong and creative Design Engineer to take a leading role in the design, development and continuous improvement of wood, multifuel, gas and electric appliances. The role is design-led, with primary focus on developing robust 3D CAD models, production-ready drawings, engineered assemblies, prototypes and manufacturable product solutions from concept through to production release. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, production and possibly suppliers to improve product performance, manufacturing efficiency, safety, compliance and cost-effectiveness.

Key responsibilities:

• Design and reverse-engineer finished products (fireplaces) and components using SolidWorks in 3D and 2D formats
• Create accurate 3D models for engineering assembly, metal sheet design, detailed 2D production drawings, bills of materials, and technical specifications
• Prepare engineering drawings and BOM (Bill of Materials)
• Design Sheet Metal, Jig & Fixture, and equipment related to manufacturing processes
• Prepare detail drawings for production
• Coordinate with production and related departments to ensure components are manufactured to specification and standard
• Improve designs and optimize for efficiency, cost reduction, and manufacturing problem-solving using DFM and DFA principles
• Conduct design reviews, verify accuracy, analyze root causes, and resolve technical issues in design, fabrication, quality, and production
• Create, test, and refine prototypes; support performance, durability, and safety testing including BS EN 16510 standards for solid fuel appliances in residential settings
• Ensure product designs comply with safety, environmental, emissions, and regulatory requirements while maintaining appropriate technical documentation and design records

Qualifications required:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metal Mold Engineering, or related field

• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks

• Expertise in Sheet Metal, Jig & Fixture design

• Ability to create 3D, 2D drawings and prepare BOM accurately and efficiently

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Design Engineer (Advantage)

• Ability to prepare detailed drawings in accordance with engineering standards

• Understanding of manufacturing processes including Fixing/Jig & Fixture, Welding, Cutting, Bending, and Painting

• Basic knowledge of Casting (Molding Process)

• Knowledge of mechanics, mechanical principles, and engineering fundamentals for design and problem-solving

• Foundation in mathematics and physics applicable to engineering calculations and design

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills

• English communication skills (writing and reading)
