What they need
Product Designer | Remote
Location: Remote, US, Canada or UK
Department: Product & Technology
Squad: Agentic MGA
About the role
Accelerant is looking for a Product Designer to join our Agentic MGA squad.
This role reaches further into product than a typical design position. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working upstream, helping decide what is worth building, how it should work and how we know whether it has actually solved the problem.
You won’t be waiting for a finished specification or being handed something to make presentable. You’ll work alongside Product and Engineering while the problem is still being understood, speaking directly with users, shaping product direction and turning ideas into working experiences quickly.
This is also a genuinely AI-native design role.
Rather than adding AI onto existing interfaces, we’re designing experiences where AI agents can perform meaningful parts of a workflow while people review, correct and authorise their work.
That creates a different type of design problem: deciding what the agent should handle, what still requires human judgement, how confidence and reasoning should be communicated, and how users remain in control.
The team
You’ll join Agentic MGA , the squad building technology that supports risk selection before an insurance policy is bound.
The product serves two key audiences: brokers submitting risk and underwriters assessing it.
Between them sits an increasingly agentic workflow that can help gather information, interpret documents, surface relevant data, identify missing information and prepare work for human review.
There is a huge amount of information available across submissions, pricing, appetite, claims, portfolio data and previous outcomes.
Your job is not simply to put that information on a screen. It is to decide what matters at each moment and make complex decisions easier to understand.
We are currently building two versions of the experience in parallel so we can put working products in front of users quickly, learn from them and use that evidence to shape the longer-term product.
What you’ll do
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering to frame problems, define scope and decide what is worth building
- Work directly with brokers and underwriters to understand how they work, what they are deciding and where existing systems create friction
- Design broker and underwriter workflows across submission, review, decision-making and state changes
- Turn dense submission and risk data into clear, usable professional experiences
- Define the division of labour between AI agents and people
- Design how AI communicates confidence, reasoning, uncertainty and required human action
- Use AI coding and prototyping tools to create working versions of ideas, not just static mock-ups
- Test early with real users and iterate based on behaviour, feedback and product outcomes
- Contribute to an AI-native design system covering patterns, components, rules and interaction models
- Stay hands-on across discovery, interaction design, prototyping and delivery
- Help raise the quality bar beyond what AI-generated default interfaces can produce
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a strong Product Designer who combines design craft with product judgement.
You’re likely to be someone who is comfortable entering an ambiguous problem space, working out what matters and helping a team move forward without waiting for a perfect brief.
You should have experience designing complex professional workflows , ideally within insurance or a comparable environment such as financial services, healthcare, legal, compliance or enterprise software.
Experience with underwriting, broker platforms, quoting, submissions, claims, policy administration, risk tools or similar workflows would be particularly valuable.
You should also be comfortable with:
- Working directly with professional users and translating complex domain knowledge into clear product experiences
- Influencing product strategy and roadmap decisions through research and evidence
- Designing data-rich interfaces where users need to make important decisions quickly
- Working across the boundary between Product Management and Product Design while remaining hands-on
- Using AI tools within your own design and prototyping workflow
- Building working prototypes with AI coding tools rather than relying solely on clickable mock-ups
- Thinking critically about AI, including trust, transparency, human oversight and error recovery
- Challenging assumptions and helping decide when something should not be built
- Using data and product outcomes alongside qualitative user research
- Maintaining strong visual and interaction design judgement
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone genuinely interested in how AI changes the nature of product design when software can take actions, interpret information and complete parts of a workflow itself.
Depth and quality of experience matter more than a specific number of years, but this is not an early-career position.
Why Accelerant?
Real ownership
Designers are trusted to make consequential product decisions rather than simply execute requirements created elsewhere.
Upstream by default
You’ll be involved while the problem is still being framed, not after the solution has already been decided.
AI-native product development
AI is part of both the products we build and the way our Product & Technology teams work.
Direct access to users
You’ll work closely with brokers, underwriters and domain experts rather than designing from second-hand requirements.
Complex problems worth solving
Specialty insurance involves fragmented workflows, large amounts of data and high-value decisions. The problems are challenging, but the impact is measurable.
Remote-first
Work with talented colleagues across the US, Canada, UK and wider global organisation.
About Accelerant
Accelerant is a data-driven risk exchange connecting underwriters of specialty insurance risk with risk capital providers.
Founded in 2018 by experienced insurance industry leaders and technology experts, Accelerant was created to rebuild the way specialty risk is exchanged so it works better for everyone involved.
Today, the Accelerant risk exchange operates across more than 20 countries and 250 specialty products , and its insurers have been awarded an AM Best A- (Excellent) rating.
Our Product & Technology organisation is continuing to evolve towards an AI-native model, using AI not only within our products but throughout the way software is designed, built, tested and operated.
