What they need

Enchante Accessories is seeking an experienced Product Development and Sourcing Project Manager to take approved product concepts and manage their development from initial factory sourcing through final production handoff.

This is not a creative design position. Product concepts and design direction will be provided by the Design and Sales teams. This person will be responsible for turning those concepts into properly sourced, cost-effective, production-ready products.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, process-driven, and experienced in sourcing consumer products from overseas factories. This person must be able to manage multiple projects, factories, samples, costs, approvals, and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining strong follow-through and clear communication.

Regular evening communication with overseas factories will be required due to international time differences.

ResponsibilitiesProduct Development and Project Management

  • Receive approved concepts, product specifications, and design direction from the Design and Sales teams.
  • Manage each project from initial sourcing through costing, sampling, approvals, testing, packaging development, and final production handoff.
  • Create and maintain detailed development calendars, project trackers, and milestone schedules.
  • Establish clear responsibilities and deadlines for factories and internal departments.
  • Track all open items and follow through until each issue is completely resolved.
  • Identify missing information, development risks, or timing concerns before they delay the project.
  • Ensure that projects remain on schedule and are completed according to customer requirements.
  • Maintain organized development records, including specifications, quotations, samples, approvals, revisions, and testing documentation.
  • Provide management and internal departments with clear project updates and escalation of critical issues.

Factory Sourcing and Communication

  • Identify and evaluate appropriate overseas factories for new products and programs.
  • Match products with factories based on capabilities, quality, pricing, capacity, compliance, and delivery requirements.
  • Communicate specifications, construction details, materials, packaging requirements, target costs, and timelines to factories.
  • Request and compare factory quotations, samples, material options, packaging solutions, and production capabilities.
  • Negotiate pricing, minimum-order quantities, lead times, tooling charges, packaging costs, and other commercial terms.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with overseas factories and sourcing partners.
  • Research alternative factories, materials, and manufacturing methods when existing options do not meet cost, quality, or timing requirements.
  • Conduct regular evening communication with overseas factories as required by international time differences.
  • Hold factories accountable for agreed-upon costs, specifications, quality standards, and development deadlines.

Costing and Profitability

  • Prepare and maintain accurate product cost sheets.
  • Review factory quotations and confirm that all product, packaging, testing, tooling, and related costs are included.
  • Work with Sales and management to meet target costs and margin requirements.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without sacrificing product quality or customer requirements.
  • Compare quotations from multiple factories and make sourcing recommendations.
  • Monitor cost changes throughout development and immediately communicate any impact on profitability.

Samples and Approvals

  • Manage the complete sample-development process, including initial samples, revisions, packaging samples, approval samples, and final pre-production samples.
  • Review samples against specifications, customer requirements, approved designs, and target costs.
  • Communicate clear and complete sample comments to factories.
  • Coordinate with Design, Sales, Packaging, Compliance, and other departments to obtain timely approvals.
  • Track all sample submissions, comments, revisions, and approval dates.
  • Ensure that factories do not proceed without the required internal or customer approvals.

Testing Packaging and Compliance

  • Coordinate product-testing requirements with the Compliance team and overseas factories.
  • Ensure that products, materials, labeling, warnings, and packaging meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage packaging development, including dimensions, construction, labeling, artwork coordination, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Track testing, packaging approvals, and compliance documentation as part of the overall development schedule.
  • Escalate testing failures, packaging issues, or compliance risks and drive corrective action.

Production Handoff

  • Confirm that each product is fully sourced, costed, sampled, tested, approved, and documented before handing it over to the Production Department.
  • Prepare a complete production-handoff package containing final specifications, approved costs, factory information, packaging requirements, testing requirements, approved samples, and delivery expectations.
  • Review the project with the assigned Production team member and clearly identify any remaining risks or special requirements.
  • Remain involved during the initial production stage when clarification or development support is required.
  • Ensure that there are no missing details that could delay production or create avoidable errors.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of product development, sourcing, merchandising, or project-management experience.
  • Experience with home décor, giftware, accessories, housewares, hard goods, soft goods, or related consumer products strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience working directly with overseas factories.
  • Demonstrated experience sourcing factories, obtaining quotations, negotiating costs, and managing product development.
  • Strong understanding of materials, construction, packaging, product testing, compliance, costing, margins, and production feasibility.
  • Exceptional project-management, organization, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to manage numerous products, factories, approvals, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including experience preparing and reviewing cost sheets and project trackers.
  • Experience with ERP, PLM, or project-management systems preferred.
  • Ability to work full-time in our Manhattan office.
  • Ability to communicate with overseas factories during evening hours as required.

Important Role Distinction

This is not a creative design position. A design portfolio is not required.

The successful candidate will be evaluated on sourcing ability, factory management, costing, organization, execution, problem-solving, and the ability to move approved concepts into production-ready products.

  • Turn approved product concepts into properly sourced and executable products.
  • Maintain accurate control over costs, samples, approvals, specifications, and deadlines.
  • Keep factories and internal departments aligned throughout development.
  • Identify problems early and drive them to resolution.
  • Protect target costs, margins, quality standards, and delivery requirements.
  • Provide the Production Department with complete and accurate handoff packages.
  • Move projects forward without requiring constant supervision.
  • Consistently close the loop on open items.
