Join a Team Growing High-Quality Seed for Global Agriculture

Genetic Technologies Limited (GTL) is a leading seed production company responsible for producing high-quality hybrid maize seed for domestic and international markets. Based in Gisborne, we work closely with growers to deliver world-class seed production through innovation, strong relationships, and operational excellence.

We are seeking a motivated and practical Production Agronomist to join our Production Team on a fixed-term basis during the 2026/27 production season.

About the Role

Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, you will support the planning, establishment, monitoring, and management of hybrid maize seed production crops throughout the growing season.

This hands-on role combines field-based agronomy, grower engagement, crop monitoring, and production reporting. You will work closely with growers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure crops achieve the highest quality and yield outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with crop establishment and planting activities.
  • Monitor crop growth, health, development, and field conditions.
  • Conduct crop inspections and record agronomic data.
  • Support irrigation, fertility, weed, pest, and disease management decisions.
  • Coordinate and monitor field activities during critical production stages.
  • Liaise with growers and contractors to ensure production standards are achieved.
  • Assist with detasseling, roguing, field inspections, and harvest preparation.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting within company systems.
  • Contribute to health, safety, and quality compliance requirements.

About You

You will be enthusiastic, adaptable, and keen to learn while enjoying working both independently and as part of a team. Ideally you will have:

  • Practical agricultural or horticultural experience.
  • Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Competent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence.
  • The ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and travel within the Gisborne region.

What We Offer

  • A unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in hybrid seed production.
  • Exposure to leading agricultural production systems and technologies.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Competitive remuneration.
  • The chance to make a real impact during a critical production season.

People Plus Ltd will be managing applications on behalf of GTL and will be reviewing these on an ongoing basis with a final closing date of 5pm Wednesday 21 October.
