Production & Maintenance Engineer

About the role

Take primary technical responsibility for production machinery, especially oil filter seaming machines, automatic leak testing machines, and other oil filter assembly and production equipment. You will carry out machine setting, adjustment and fine-tuning according to product specifications, troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control-related machine problems, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize machine downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out machine setting, adjustment and fine-tuning according to product specifications

• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control-related machine problems

• Diagnose machine abnormalities and identify the root cause of breakdowns or recurring production problems

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize machine downtime

• Establish appropriate machine parameters and ensure settings are properly documented

• Ensure machines are capable of consistently producing products within required quality specifications

• Work closely with Production and QA to investigate defects, leakage problems, seaming defects and other process-related quality issues

• Support new product or new model machine setup, trial runs and production commencement

• Improve machine performance, productivity, cycle time and production efficiency

• Prepare and maintain preventive maintenance schedules, machine maintenance records, spare-parts requirements and machine history

• Guide and train junior maintenance personnel in proper machine maintenance and troubleshooting

• Liaise directly with machinery suppliers, including China-based suppliers, when technical support, spare parts or machine modifications are required

• Ensure critical spare parts are identified and maintained to prevent unnecessary production stoppages

• Assist management in machine improvement, modification, automation and future machinery purchases when required

• Ensure machinery is operated safely and properly at all times

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical field.
• Preferably 5 years or more of hands-on experience in manufacturing machinery maintenance, troubleshooting and machine setup.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of industrial machinery.
• Able to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and basic PLC/control system problems.
• Experience with seaming, crimping, leak testing, assembly or automated production machinery will be a strong advantage.
• Experience in automotive parts, automotive filters, metal components or similar manufacturing industries will be an added advantage.
• Able to understand machine drawings, electrical diagrams and technical manuals.
• Able to communicate with overseas machinery suppliers for technical troubleshooting.
• Must be willing to work hands-on at the machine when problems occur.
• Strong problem-solving and root-cause-analysis ability.
• Independent, responsible and able to work under minimal supervision.
• Preferably residing in or near Bukit Kemuning, Shah Alam, Klang or surrounding areas.
• Candidates who are mainly administrative or supervisory without strong hands-on machinery experience may not be suitable for this position.
