Production and Technical Expert

ROLE OVERVIEW: Operates at the leadership and control level of the organization. This role acts as a delegate for the Director of Production and Technical when required. The primary focus is bridging the gap between high-level strategy and operational reality, ensuring all project phases are managed effectively while maintaining alignment with show requirements, safety standards, and project schedules.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Execution & Project Controls:

• Translates strategy into practical execution plans.
• Manages project plans, schedules, milestones, WBS, and technical budgets, ensuring alignment with project requirements and delivery objectives.
• Monitors project timelines, WBS, and progress against milestones, ensuring delivery remains on track.
• Manages staging and production timelines for theatrical infrastructure projects, with a specific focus on driving the technical development phase.
• Supports cost tracking, forecasting, and budget control processes across all technical and production workstreams.
• Tracks performance metrics and project outcomes to support continuous improvement and accountability.

Technical Systems & Delivery:

• Reviews technical designs, schedules, and plans.
• Oversees technical systems and infrastructure including lighting, audio, video, automation, stage machinery, MEP, TSE, and ISS systems.
• Reviews, coordinates, and supports the design, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of all technical systems.
• Provides technical troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and issue resolution throughout all project phases.
• Ensures seamless integration of technical systems with production requirements and show/operational needs.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Coordination:

• Oversees day-to-day cross-project coordination.
• Ensures integration between production and technical teams.
• Supports problem-solving and issue resolution.
• Helps manage workload distribution and priorities.
• Supports structured project planning processes and ensures integration between production, technical, creative, and operational teams.
• Coordinates across production teams, technical departments, creative teams, and operations to ensure smooth execution of all project phases.
• Provides oversight of production activities, ensuring all technical and operational elements align with show requirements and schedules.
• Oversees allocation of production resources, logistics, vendor engagement, and procurement to support timely delivery.
• Oversees on-site production execution, ensuring readiness for rehearsals, testing, commissioning, and live operations.

Compliance, Quality & Risk Management:

• Ensures all technical and production solutions comply with project specifications, business requirements, international standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Enforces OHS, safety, and operational compliance across all production and technical activities.
• Maintains quality assurance standards across installations, production execution, and system delivery.
• Identifies, assesses, and mitigates project and production risks, ensuring continuity of operations and delivery performance.
• Reviews partners and vendors contract terms and conditions to ensure alignment with project scope, compliance requirements, and agreed deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Production, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field highly preferred.
• Minimum 10-15 years of experience in technical operations and project management within the live entertainment or theatrical infrastructure industry.
• Extensive experience managing complex technical development phases and multi-year project lifecycles.
• Proven track record of working overseas and managing international production teams, with a strong preference for experience operating within Southeast Asia or Vietnam.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong command of organizational planning, mitigate risks, and navigate complex operational environments.
• Deep knowledge of cross-disciplinary technical engineering, including theatrical lighting, audio, automation, MEP, and stage machinery.
• Excellent financial acumen, with the ability to forecast costs and control large-scale technical budgets.
• High-level stakeholder management skills, capable of acting as a definitive escalation point and aligning creative vision with practical technical execution.
