About Planks
Planks is an online timber supplier specialising in made-to-measure solid oak and solid walnut products. Focused on selling direct to consumers, Planks is targeting a huge untapped market for DIY enthusiasts looking to buy premium wood online. Led by a multi-time founder, James Terry (co-founder of Dishpatch, sold to Waitrose), Planks is positioned to reshape the UK's £3.1bn timber industry and we're excited you're considering joining us on the journey.
About the Role:
We're looking for a skilled Production Carpenter Assistant to join us on a part time time basis to help produce our orders. This is a hands-on production role - working with solid timber every day, cutting, machining and finishing made-to-order hardwood planks and panels at pace, while maintaining a high standard of quality throughout.
You'll play a key role in keeping the workshop running smoothly and ensuring every piece that leaves the door meets our standards. If you love working with your hands, being productive, and seeing finished products go out the door every day, you'll fit right in.
What you'll be doing
- Production: cutting planks and panels accurately and efficiently to order specifications.
- Material Picking: selecting material to match order requirements while minimising waste.
- Finishing: sanding, routing and drilling using belt sander, spindle moulder and other workshop machinery.
- Quality Control: completing final checks on finished pieces and making adjustments before fulfilment.
- Workshop Maintenance: keeping the workspace clean, safe and well organised.
About You
- 1+ years experience in a woodworking / carpentry workshop
- Comfortable working at pace while maintaining quality
- Practical, hands-on and proactive with a common sense approach
- Takes pride in a clean and organised workspace
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and ability to keep the team updated on progress
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay for this role is £18 per hour on a freelance basis
- This role will start with 2-3 days per week, with an opportunity to move to full time
- This role is based at our workshop in Camberwell in South London
- Social, fun and no-ego work environment
- Regular team dinners and drinks
- Free oak and walnut offcuts for all your DIY desires
Note: if you are looking for a part time or full time contract, rather than zero-hours, please still apply to this role expressing so, as we may be able to offer this.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16.0 – 24.0 per week
Benefits:
