What they need

OPEN STANDARD is seeking a Shop Manager to lead the daily execution of our cabinetry and architectural millwork production. The ideal candidate combines practical fabrication experience with strong organization, clear communication, and the ability to support a productive shop team.

This role is responsible for making sure employees understand their work, have what they need before starting, and receive timely support when issues arise. Working closely with operations leadership, engineering, and procurement, the Shop Manager translates the production schedule into clear daily tasks and keeps work moving efficiently through the shop.

Success means consistent output, precise craftsmanship, fewer preventable interruptions, and a team that feels prepared and supported.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily shop execution. Organize work around the approved production schedule, required-by dates, and employee assignments established with operations leadership.
  • Give employees clear direction. Confirm that each person understands their primary task, next task, expected outcome, and where to get support.
  • Verify readiness before work begins. Ensure fabrication drawings, models, production sheets, programs, bills of materials, manufacturing orders, and other required information are complete and available.
  • Confirm materials and equipment are ready. Verify that correct sheet goods, hardware, components, tooling, machine access, and trained operators are available before starting work. Flag exceptions early.
  • Protect production flow. Anticipate bottlenecks, minimize unnecessary task changes, and coordinate work between shop stations to maintain consistent progress.
  • Own shop issue resolution. Address fabrication and in-house material issues promptly. Give each issue a clear owner, next action, and follow-up date, and verify that the resolution works.
  • Coordinate technical support. Bring engineering and programming questions to the engineering team and escalate schedule or priority conflicts to operations leadership.
  • Support and develop employees. Provide practical instruction, check understanding, reinforce shop standards, and identify training needs before they become recurring problems.
  • Maintain quality throughout fabrication. Verify work against approved production information, catch mistakes early, and address defects before work moves to the next stage.
  • Maintain a safe, organized shop. Oversee housekeeping, material storage, tool readiness, and equipment maintenance coordination.
  • Close each shift with follow-through. Confirm completed work, record interruptions and unresolved issues, and prepare the next shift’s tasks and materials.
  • Report production performance. Track output, readiness, interruptions, and open issues. Participate in weekly production alignment and help the team meet the agreed production target.
  • Improve daily processes. Use recurring shop problems to strengthen preparation, handoffs, training, and execution while reducing waste and rework.

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience supervising a cabinetry, millwork, or woodworking production shop
  • Strong practical knowledge of fabrication methods, materials, hardware, machinery, and quality standards
  • Ability to organize daily work across multiple employees and production stations
  • Confidence reading fabrication drawings and working with digital production information
  • A clear communicator who checks understanding and follows through until issues are resolved
  • A supportive leader who builds accountability, develops employees, and addresses performance concerns directly
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment about when to resolve an issue independently or escalate it
  • A disciplined approach to preparation, safety, organization, and consistent execution
  • Comfort using production software and tracking tools to communicate progress and maintain accurate records
