Production Machine Operator

For more than 100 years Barnes & Cone has been a leader in the manufacturing of cement block, retaining walls and masonry supplies. Our products are used in many of the local architectural buildings and residential homes throughout CNY.

We are seeking a Machine Operator to help in running our Besser Block Machine. This is not a CNC machine but a robust multi-faceted piece of equipment that manufactures all types and sizes of cement blocks.

This is a union job with the Steelworker’s local 12623-02.

We are located in Syracuse NY.

The position offers between $26.81 to $30.59 per hour. The actual hourly rate offered will vary based on the applicants’ relevant skills and experience.

Hours are Monday through Friday 6:00am to approximately 3:30pm with a 30-minute lunch daily. Saturdays are worked as needed and usually are from 6am-11am.

Since the “block business” is a special niche, we will provide extensive training by our knowledgeable current machine operator and other personnel.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Willingness to learn and use your knowledge to train those that need mentoring.

· Follow all OSHA and company safety protocols. Lock out tag out procedures

· Operate and monitor the concrete block manufacturing equipment to ensure safe and efficient production

· Once learned, help to perform maintenance on the block machine, mixer, conveyors, cuber, hydraulic systems and associated equipment

· Perform equipment change overs

· Inspect equipment daily and identify potential failures before they occur

· Keep work areas clean and organized

· Work well with others. We are one team striving for the same goal to manufacture the best block

Qualifications, but not all inclusive:

· A positive, passionate and creative mindset

· Must be coachable and be open to apply new concepts quickly

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to prioritize work flow

· Demonstrate persistence and resilience, taking pride in your day’s work

· Manufacturing experience

· Trouble shooting ability

· Welding and metal fabricating skills

· Industrial power transmission systems a plus

· Ability to rebuild pumps, gearboxes, motors and hydraulic equipment

· Precision measuring tools; dial indicators, calipers and micrometers

· Safely operate a forklift, overhead crane and rigging equipment

· Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment

· Comfortable working overtime and responding to emergency breakdowns when necessary

· Physically able to lift up to 75 pounds
