Production Manager – Aerospace Division

We are looking for a technically strong Production Manager to lead daily production activities at MPT Aero. The role involves planning and executing the manufacture of precision machined parts, fabricated assemblies, aerospace tooling, jigs and fixtures.

The candidate must have hands-on aerospace manufacturing experience, strong drawing interpretation and GD&T knowledge, and the ability to resolve shop-floor technical issues while ensuring quality, delivery and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and monitor daily production activities across machining, fabrication, assembly and finishing.
• Translate customer drawings, specifications and delivery requirements into clear manufacturing plans, process sequences and shop-floor instructions.
• Allocate manpower, machines and resources according to project priorities, available capacity and committed delivery dates.
• Review engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, datum schemes, surface finishes and material specifications before releasing work for production.
• Oversee CNC milling and turning, wire-cut EDM, surface and cylindrical grinding, conventional machining, welding and fabrication.
• Select suitable manufacturing methods, tooling, workholding arrangements and inspection stages to achieve dimensional accuracy and repeatability.
• Guide fabrication teams on fit-up, weld sequencing, distortion control, alignment and dimensional accuracy of welded assemblies.
• Apply metallurgy knowledge to material selection and identification, machinability, welding compatibility, heat treatment and surface treatment requirements.
• Assess structural considerations for fabricated assemblies, including load paths, stiffness, deflection, weld joints and lifting points; coordinate with design engineers for calculations, FEA and validation where required.
• Coordinate with customers to clarify technical requirements, resolve manufacturing queries, communicate progress and support inspections and acceptance.
• Work closely with Design, Quality, Purchase and Stores to ensure drawings, BOMs, materials, bought-out items and inspection requirements are available on time.
• Coordinate external processes such as heat treatment, plating, anodising, coating and specialised testing, ensuring compliance with customer specifications.
• Ensure production uses approved drawing revisions and maintains material identification, traceability and manufacturing records.
• Investigate non-conformances, rework and production delays; implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
• Ensure readiness for dimensional inspection, assembly trials, functional testing, load testing and final dispatch.
• Develop and improve SOPs, process checklists and production reporting systems.
• Lead and train supervisors, operators, machinists, welders and fitters, promoting safe working practices and accountability.
• Report production progress, capacity constraints, bottlenecks and recovery plans to management.

Required Technical Competencies

• Strong aerospace manufacturing experience involving both precision machined components and fabricated assemblies.
• Excellent ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and apply GD&T in manufacturing and inspection.
• Sound practical knowledge of CNC machining, wire-cut EDM, grinding and conventional machining processes.
• Understanding of machining allowances, process capability, tolerance accumulation, workholding and inspection methods.
• Working knowledge of engineering materials, including alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminium alloys, titanium and nickel-based alloys.
• Knowledge of welding processes, fabrication practices, distortion control, heat treatment and surface finishing.
• Ability to understand and review structural calculations and FEA results for fabricated assemblies.
• Familiarity with CMM inspection, measuring instruments, calibration, material certificates and aerospace traceability requirements.
• Awareness of aerospace quality requirements, including AS9100 practices and first article inspection requirements.
• Ability to use CAD viewers, ERP systems and Excel for production planning and reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering.
• Preferably 8–12 years of relevant manufacturing experience, including at least 3 years in a production leadership role.
• Prior aerospace manufacturing experience is essential.
• Experience in aerospace tooling, ground support equipment, engine maintenance tooling, jigs, fixtures or similar assemblies will be an advantage.

Pay: ₹65,000.00 - ₹95,000.00 per month
