Production Manager

We’re looking for an experienced hands on Production Manager to join a growing Wellington-based manufacturing business. This is a unique opportunity for someone who can combine technical design capability, hands-on fabrication and strong people leadership.

With a growing pipeline of projects across international markets, this role will play a key part in strengthening the production team, improving capability and helping the business scale.

What you'll be doing

• Lead and mentor a diverse workshop and production team, building capability and developing people.
• Spend majority of the time in the workshop on site instead of in-office
• Plan and coordinate production, workflow, resources and logistics.
• Work hands-on with fabrication, manufacturing and workshop processes.
• Troubleshoot technical and production issues and find practical solutions.
• Work across design, engineering and production to turn concepts into practical, manufacturable outcomes.
• Monitor quality, QA, H&S and production standards.
• Identify bottlenecks, rework and opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Take responsibility for workshop equipment, processes and day-to-day operational requirements.
• Coordinate logistics and support the delivery of projects to international customers.
• Train and develop team members, understanding where to invest time to build capability.

What we're looking for

We're looking for a genuine hands-on leader. Someone who is comfortable getting involved, understanding how things are made and working alongside the team.

You'll ideally bring:

• Experience leading a workshop, production or manufacturing team.
• A strong background in fabrication, manufacturing or mechanical engineering.
• Hands-on experience with fabrication and machinery.
• Industrial or mechanical design experience.
• CAD / 3D modelling experience.
• Strong understanding of design-for-manufacture.
• Experience with QA, H&S, SOPs and quality processes.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and practical problem-solving skills.
• Experience improving production processes and workflow.
• Excellent communication and people leadership skills.

This isn't a role for someone who wants to sit behind a desk and manage from a distance.
