What they need

Production Manager – Phoenix Containers

Phoenix Containers is a growing Western Australian business specialising in shipping container modifications and custom-built solutions for the mining, construction, industrial and commercial sectors.

We’re looking for an experienced Production Manager to take ownership of our workshop and production operation — leading the team, managing workflow and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, on budget and to a high standard.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on Production Manager who enjoys working in a fast-paced workshop environment and taking ownership of the entire production process.

The Role

A key focus of this position is owning and controlling the production schedule. You’ll need to have a clear understanding of where every project sits within production and be able to confidently provide realistic lead times and completion dates.

Working closely with our Sales, Estimating, Purchasing and Management teams, your responsibilities will include:

  • Own and manage the production schedule across all container modification projects
  • Plan labour, workshop capacity, materials and subcontractors to meet required completion dates
  • Provide realistic production lead times and communicate any potential delays
  • Lead and manage workshop personnel, including daily production/pre-start meetings
  • Monitor jobs through production against schedule, labour hours and budget
  • Coordinate trades including fabricators, welders, painters, and subcontractors
  • Ensure drawings, specifications, build documentation and quality requirements are followed
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, housekeeping and workshop organisation
  • Identify production issues, bottlenecks and recurring problems and implement practical solutions
  • Improve production processes, procedures, tracking and reporting
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management of production employees
  • Work with senior management on staffing, equipment and future workshop capacity

About You

We’re looking for a strong leader who is equally comfortable managing the production schedule and getting out into the workshop.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Production Manager, Workshop Manager or similar
  • Experience within manufacturing, fabrication or a workshop environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with a trade background highly regarded
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills
  • Excellent planning, scheduling and organisational ability
  • Experience managing multiple projects and changing priorities
  • A practical approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to delegate effectively while remaining hands-on
  • Good computer skills and the ability to learn new systems
  • Experience using production scheduling and/or job-management software would be advantageous
  • Current WA Driver’s Licence

What’s In It For You?

Phoenix Containers is a practical, down-to-earth team with a strong focus on making it happen for our customers.

This is a senior operational role with genuine autonomy and the opportunity to make an impact on how our workshop operates. We want someone who takes ownership, identifies problems and brings forward ideas that improve productivity, quality, safety and workflow.

Our projects can incorporate structural steel and fabrication, insulation and internal linings, electrical, plumbing, doors and windows, shelving, workbenches, specialised flooring, painting and complete custom fit-outs.

Every project is different, which means our production environment is fast-moving and requires strong communication, planning and coordination between our workshop, suppliers, subcontractors and office teams.

If you’re an experienced manufacturing or workshop leader who enjoys leading people, solving problems and seeing projects move from a drawing through to a completed build, we’d like to hear from you.
