What they need
Elevation Recruitment Group are excited to be exclusively partnered with a well established, privately owned engineering manufacturer in Barnsley, who are looking to appoint a Production Manager to take ownership of output, people and performance across their manufacturing site.
The business designs and builds capital equipment for an international customer base and has grown steadily over a number of years. This site feeds the group's final assembly operation, so the Production Manager plays a direct part in keeping the wider business moving, planning daily output against Kanban targets and changing demand, and reviewing capacity monthly as volumes shift.
This is a hands on leadership role with real scope to change things. The business wants a Production Manager who will challenge a "how we've always done it" culture, drive throughput through Lean and single piece flow, and develop Section Managers and Team Leaders so improvement sticks once it's in place.
Benefits:
- Business performance bonus
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing with service
- 5% contributory pension, healthcare scheme and death in service cover
Working Hours: 40 hours per week, 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, 7.30am to 1.30pm
Friday
Salary: £57,345 guaranteed basic plus overtime and bonus
Duties of the Production Manager will include:
- Leading site production in line with company strategy and KPIs, covering safety, quality, delivery and cost
- Identifying and removing bottlenecks to drive throughput improvement across each value stream
- Embedding Lean Manufacturing, single piece flow and continuous improvement, encouraging ideas from the shop floor teams
- Planning daily output targets against Kanban min and max levels and changing priorities from assembly
- Reviewing capacity plans monthly and managing labour, overtime and direct labour costs to hit output
- Making sure TPM, housekeeping and ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 standards are followed and improved
- Supporting new product introduction and outsourcing activity
- Coaching Section Managers and Team Leaders, including managing discipline and HR policy in a structured way
Requirements of the Production Manager:
- At least 5 years in a Production Management role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong practical understanding of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques
- Engineering degree, or extensive experience in an engineering or production environment
- Methodical, procedure and data driven, comfortable working with KPIs and an ERP system
- Confident challenging established ways of working and leading cultural change
- A coaching style of leadership, with a track record of developing teams
- Desirable: automotive, assembly or high mix manufacturing background
