What You’ll Do:
We are seeking a Production Manager to lead the hourly workforce across receiving, warehousing, material handling, assembly, testing, packing, and shipping. Reporting to the Troy Site Manager, this position is responsible for daily operational performance in safety, delivery, quality, and cost.
This is an active, floor-based leadership role. You will spend the majority of your workday in production and warehouse areas, organizing work, coaching employees, monitoring progress, and resolving problems. You must be willing to step in and help when needed while keeping the entire team focused on its commitments.
The right candidate has strong people skills, sets clear expectations, and knows how to motivate performance through consistent communication, practical support, and fair accountability.
Daily Tasks:
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop hourly production, warehouse, and logistics employees.
- Communicate daily priorities, assign work, and ensure employees understand expectations.
- Recognize strong performance and address attendance, conduct, and performance issues promptly and consistently.
- Train and cross-train employees to build skills, flexibility, and dependable coverage.
Production and Delivery
- Translate production requirements into daily staffing plans, work assignments, and measurable output targets.
- Monitor progress throughout the shift, address bottlenecks, and adjust resources to meet production and shipping commitments.
- Coordinate receiving, storage, inventory accuracy, and material staging so employees have the correct parts and supplies when needed.
- Ensure finished products are properly tested, packed, identified, documented, and ready to ship on schedule.
- Communicate shortages, equipment issues, and delivery risks early, with clear recovery actions.
Safety and Quality
- Enforce safe work practices and promptly address unsafe conditions.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas, clear aisles, and orderly material storage.
- Ensure employees follow approved work instructions and complete required inspections, testing, and production records.
- Work with quality and engineering personnel to resolve problems, reduce defects, and prevent recurrence.
Cost and Continuous Improvement
- Manage labor utilization and overtime to support production requirements and cost targets.
- Monitor output, productivity, rework, scrap, and material damage, and take action to improve results.
- Improve material flow, workstation organization, and standard work through practical, employee-supported changes.
- Ensure timely and accurate production and inventory transactions in company systems.
What You Bring: At least three years of direct supervisory experience leading hourly employees in manufacturing, assembly, or comparable production operation.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust, motivate employees, and hold a team accountable for results.
- Experience managing daily production schedules, staffing, quality, and delivery commitments.
- Strong organizational skills and a practical approach to solving problems in a busy operating environment.
- Familiarity with warehouse operations, inventory control, and material flow.
- Comfortable using production systems, spreadsheets, and basic performance measures.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical education is helpful. Relevant leadership experience is valued over a specific degree.
