What they need

Build world-class analytical instrumentation with Syft Technologies!

Syft Technologies is a world leader in Selected Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry (SIFT-MS), revolutionizing trace gas analysis for industries like semiconductor, pharmaceutical, environmental protection, and food safety. Our technology enables real-time, precise chemical analysis at the parts-per-trillion level, solving complex challenges and driving efficiency across global markets.

At Syft, we believe in pushing boundaries, simplifying complexity, and working collaboratively. Our team of technicians, engineers, chemists, physicists, and business professionals thrive in an environment where innovation, problem-solving, and teamwork define our DNA.

Today, we're looking for a Production Scientist who enjoys applying scientific knowledge to real-world technology. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of science, engineering, and manufacturing, helping ensure every instrument delivers the performance and reliability our customers depend on.

About the role

As part of the production team, you'll play a key role in ensuring our instruments meet exacting performance standards before they leave our facility. This is a hands-on role that combines analytical thinking, instrumentation expertise, troubleshooting, calibration, and practical assembly work.

Whether you're an early-career scientist looking to apply your scientific training in an applied technology environment, or an experienced professional seeking a role that combines science with practical problem-solving, we'd love to hear from you.

You'll work alongside scientists, technicians, engineers, and product specialists to build, test, calibrate, and optimise highly sophisticated analytical instruments. Training and support will be provided as you develop your knowledge of our technology and production processes.

As a Production Scientist, you'll spend most of your time on:

  • Calibrating and tuning analytical instruments to ensure they meet performance specifications.
  • Testing, validating, and quality-checking instruments throughout the production process.
  • Troubleshooting instrument performance issues and identifying root causes.
  • Installing and testing customer-specific modules and applications.
  • Performing final performance verification and quality assurance checks before shipment.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across production and quality systems.
  • Collaborating with engineering, product development, and support teams to solve technical challenges.
  • Assisting with assembly and build activities as part of the wider production team.

About you

You'll be someone who enjoys understanding how complex systems work, has a strong eye for detail, and takes satisfaction in solving technical problems.

Essential

  • A bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to understand complex systems and how individual components interact.
  • A methodical and evidence-based approach to troubleshooting and investigation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Confidence following technical procedures, documentation, and work instructions.

Bonus if you have

  • Hands-on experience testing, troubleshooting, servicing, assembling, or operating technical equipment, instrumentation, or laboratory systems.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation or laboratory equipment.
  • Experience calibrating, maintaining, or troubleshooting scientific instruments.
  • Experience working in high-tech manufacturing, precision engineering, or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and controlled manufacturing processes.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools such as multimeters and other electronic test equipment.

You'll enjoy working in this role if you:

  • Like applying scientific knowledge to practical, real-world challenges.
  • Enjoy troubleshooting and understanding why systems behave the way they do.
  • Want to work with sophisticated instrumentation and cutting-edge technology.
  • Take pride in producing accurate, reliable, high-quality results.
  • Enjoy collaborating with scientists, engineers, and technical specialists.
  • Prefer a role where every day combines scientific thinking with hands-on problem solving.

Why work at Syft?

  • Apply your scientific expertise to industry-leading analytical technology.
  • Be part of a team that develops and builds instruments used by customers around the world.
  • Work alongside experts in science, engineering, software, and manufacturing.
  • Gain exposure to advanced analytical instrumentation and real-world applications.
  • Join a supportive and collaborative team that values learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop specialised technical skills through hands-on experience and training.

Apply now

If you're passionate about science, technology, and solving complex technical problems, we'd love to hear from you.

In your cover letter, please tell us about:

  • A scientific, technical, or laboratory project you've worked on that you're particularly proud of; and/or
  • A time you've solved a difficult technical or instrumentation-related problem.

Applicants must have the current, legal right to work in New Zealand without sponsorship.

Don’t have a science background but you’re interested in a hands-on production role?

We're also hiring a Production Technician to support the assembly, testing, and calibration of our instruments.
