Production Supervisor

The Production Supervisor for the Tube Mill is tasked with directing and synchronizing mill activities to guarantee output that is safe, productive, and meets high-quality benchmarks. This position requires a proactive, hands-on approach to managing daily workflows, fostering staff growth, and driving ongoing process enhancements. By collaborating across maintenance, quality, and management departments, the supervisor plays a vital role in achieving plant-wide performance targets and upholding safety protocols.

Core Responsibilities

Operational Oversight

• Manage day-to-day tube mill functions to achieve production timelines, uphold quality benchmarks, and maintain cost efficiency.
• Adjust and refine production planning to align with evolving customer demands and organizational goals.
• Direct mill transitions, initial startups, and shutdowns to maximize operational speed and reduce idle time.
• Help restore production flow by actively assisting during equipment failures, bottlenecks, and planned maintenance windows.

Team Mentorship & Management

• Mentor and train mill staff to elevate their technical proficiency, overall performance, and workplace engagement.
• Provide direct floor-level guidance by working alongside the team to ensure operational success.
• Oversee administrative tasks including timekeeping, documentation of training, and HR-related disciplinary procedures.
• Maintain optimal labor coverage by participating in the hiring process and coordinating staffing for absences.

Quality & Process Optimization

• Verify that all manufactured goods adhere to quality specifications and assist during internal or external audits.
• Maintain precise and timely documentation for all operational, quality, and production-related reporting.
• Drive improvements in safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness by identifying and executing process upgrades.

Maintenance & Safety Standards

• Report equipment performance issues or mechanical faults to the maintenance and management teams.
• Support the maintenance department by assisting with repairs and routine preventative maintenance tasks.
• Foster a secure working environment by strictly enforcing OSHA standards and company safety policies.
• Champion a culture of safety by proactively identifying and correcting hazardous behaviors or conditions.

Collaboration & Communication

• Coordinate with cross-functional departments, including maintenance and quality, to ensure seamless plant operations.
• Deliver clear, professional feedback regarding performance expectations and daily priorities.
• Execute additional responsibilities as needed to help the facility reach its overarching objectives.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of experience in a manufacturing or production leadership capacity.
• Background in the steel industry is mandatory, with preference given to those with tube mill expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and foster the professional growth of team members.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities to navigate a high-speed manufacturing setting.
• Flexibility to accommodate overtime and shifting production requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interpersonal interaction.
• Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Office and production reporting software.
• Experience with quality management systems, specifically ISO 9001, is a plus.
