What they need
About Western Meat Packers
Proudly Western Australian, Western Meat Packers is a family-run meat processing business that has operated since 1983.
From our Osborne Park facility, we process and supply quality meat products to domestic and international markets. While our business has grown significantly over the years, we remain committed to safety, quality, reliability, teamwork and delivering consistently high standards for our customers.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Production Supervisor to lead an operational team at our Osborne Park meat processing facility.
This position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of an allocated production area, leading employees, and ensuring that production requirements are achieved safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
The Production Supervisor plays an important role in setting expectations, allocating employees, monitoring production performance and addressing operational issues throughout the shift. You will work closely with other production leaders and the Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Workplace Health and Safety, Logistics and Human Resources teams.
This is a salaried, permanent full-time position working Monday to Friday. The usual production hours are 6:00 am to 2:06 pm.
As part of the supervisory responsibilities, some reasonable additional time will be required before and/or after these hours to prepare the production room, coordinate startup activities, oversee cleanup and attend the daily production close-out meeting.
The site may also operate on ad hoc Saturdays. Where Saturday work is undertaken, it will be paid at a higher rate.
Your Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the daily activities of the production team, providing clear direction and visible, hands-on leadership.
Allocate employees across work areas to meet production priorities and operational requirements.
Ensure the production room is prepared for startup, production runs efficiently and cleanup activities are completed appropriately.
Communicate daily targets and monitor production output, labour utilisation, product yield, waste, quality and downtime.
Maintain high standards of workplace safety, food safety, hygiene and product quality, addressing concerns as they arise.
Train, coach and support employees while managing attendance, conduct and performance expectations.
Respond promptly to production delays, equipment faults and other operational issues, working with Maintenance and support teams as required.
Maintain accurate production records and provide updates at daily production close-out meetings.
Identify and support opportunities to improve safety, workflow, product quality and production efficiency.
About You
You will be an experienced production leader who is comfortable supervising from the floor and remaining actively involved in daily operations.
You can communicate expectations clearly, make sound decisions under pressure and balance the competing demands of people leadership, safety, product quality and production performance.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Previous experience supervising or leading employees in meat processing, food manufacturing, production or a comparable industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating daily production activities and allocating labour.
- A sound understanding of production targets, product yield, quality requirements and operational efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety, food safety, hygiene and quality assurance requirements.
- The ability to lead, coach and hold employees accountable for their performance and conduct.
- Well-developed communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to remain calm and make practical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Confidence working with production records, reports and basic computer systems.
- A reliable, professional and hands-on approach to leadership.
- The ability to safely perform the inherent requirements of the position.
- A willingness to work the additional supervisory time required around production startup, cleanup and daily close-out activities.
- Current and suitable Australian working rights for permanent full-time employment.
The Working Environment
This role is based within an operating meat processing facility. Candidates should be comfortable with:
- Working around raw meat and animal products.
- The sights and smells associated with commercial meat processing.
- Working in chilled, wet and noisy production areas.
- Standing and moving throughout the production area for extended periods.
- Wearing required food-production clothing and personal protective equipment.
- Working around production machinery, conveyors and moving equipment.
- Responding to changing operational priorities and equipment breakdowns.
- Leading employees in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
