What they need
Job title – Production Support Engineer
Croydon, Greater London
Starting Salary - £36,000 - £42,000 (Depending on experience)
Who is the ideal candidate?
We are looking for an engineer who understands why a machine works the way it does, not just how to replace a part when it stops. You will be hands-on, keeping our equipment running reliably, diagnosing and repairing faults, but you will also have the engineering knowledge to look at our machinery, work out how it could be improved, and design new equipment to meet future production needs.
You have a sound understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering, and are a proactive problem-solver who is methodical and organised. You will be comfortable taking a new product or machine from prototype into production, and just as comfortable investigating a non-conformance to find out what went wrong, using both to drive continuous improvement across the department.
What is this role?
Quality is central to what we do, and the equipment in our Vial Production department reflects that. This engineering support role covers all of it, from simple mechanical machines and fully automated systems designed in-house, to optical equipment used for both manufacturing and inspection.
You will be based in the Vial department, working closely with the Vial Supervisor and Technical Lead, and partnering with our senior engineers on product testing and development.

- Raise and manage ECNs (Engineering Change Notes) and NCRs (Non-conformance Reports) through to completion
- Investigate and resolve problems on faulty products, and carry out Quality Investigations to deepen understanding of our products and processes
- Create and edit Works Instructions
- Support NPI (New Product Introduction) with prototype testing and documentation
- Be the first point of call for machine repairs, diagnosing breakdowns and building a knowledge base of routine fixes
- Proactively identify and address recurring issues to prevent machine breakdowns
- Manage inventory of spare components
- Take part in and contribute to design review meetings
- Support modifications and updates to existing products
- Undertake detailed product testing and create Inspection Reports
- Mechanical design of fixtures and jigs to support production and test requirements
- Aid the training of technicians on production tasks, equipment, and company systems
Qualifications and skills required:
- Sound understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering principles (essential)
- Practical experience of maintaining, fault-finding and repairing a range of machinery (essential)
- Experience of improving existing equipment or designing new machinery, fixtures or jigs (essential)
- Experience in a manufacturing or production environment (essential)
