Production Technician

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Production Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing metal components prior to welding and finishing welded assemblies to meet quality, safety, and dimensional standards. This role plays a critical part in ensuring weld integrity through proper surface preparation and delivering a polished, professional final product through grinding and blending operations. Core Responsibilities

• Operate manufacturing equipment and machinery, including power tools and hand tools, following safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
• Clean, grind, and prepare metal surfaces by removing rust, scale, oil, paint, contaminants, and defects
• Bevel, shape, and smooth edges to ensure proper weld penetration and fit-up
• Measure and mark according to specifications and blueprints
• Select and maintain appropriate tools and abrasives for prep work
• Blend welds to achieve smooth, dimensionally correct surfaces
• Remove excess weld material, shell, shrink, etc.
• Polish and finish surfaces to meet customer or project specifications (cosmetic and structural)
• Ensure blends meet quality standards, including proper contour and appearance
• Prepare finished components for inspection or shipment
• Operate power tools such as angle grinders, sanders, and polishing equipment safely
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE
• Read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, or work instructions
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to meet production goals

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in metal fabrication, welding support, grinding, or finishing (preferred but not always required)
• Proficiency with hand and power tools (grinders, sanders, etc.)
• Ability to read basic blueprints and follow technical instructions
• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate to heavy materials

Preferred

• Previous experience in a welding or fabrication shop
• Familiarity with different metals (stainless steel, nickel, cobalt)
• Knowledge of surface finishing standards and welding preparation techniques
• Understanding of workplace safety practices in an industrial environment

Work Environment

• Industrial or shop setting with exposure to noise, dust, and sparks
• Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, face shields, and safety glasses
• Physically active role involving standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
