What they need

Build world-class technology with Syft Technologies!

Our Christchurch-based production team manufactures specialised analytical instruments (SIFT-MS) that help customers around the world solve complex analytical challenges. Every instrument we ship is the result of skilled workmanship, careful testing, and a commitment to quality.

We're looking for a Production Technician who enjoys working with their hands, solving technical problems, and taking pride in producing quality work. You'll thrive in a collaborative manufacturing environment where attention to detail matters and where every step of the process contributes to the success of the final product.

About the role

As part of the production team, you'll help ensure our instruments are assembled, tested, and calibrated to the highest standards, delivering reliable results for customers from the moment they are installed.

Whether you’re an emerging technician that enjoys rolling up their sleeves to build real products and are eager to grow your assembly skills, or you’re an experienced production professional looking for your next role, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll work alongside other technicians across production to learn each step of the process and gain exposure to various complex components across the instrument. Our instrument is complex, starting out with Mechanical sub-assemblies, you’ll get the opportunity to learn and work across other areas of our production over time. Training and support will be provided as you develop your knowledge of our technology and production processes.

As a Production Technician, here is what you’ll spend most of your time on:

  • About 60% mechanical assembly, working with detailed work instructions and alongside other technicians.
  • Testing, calibration, and quality checks throughout the production process.
  • Quality testing and inspections.
  • Identifying and resolving assembly or test faults.
  • Deciding when to dig further into understanding a problem or escalating to others.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Support production continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist other areas of production as required.

Essential

  • Hands on experience assembling, testing, troubleshooting, or service technical products or equipment.
  • Strong collaborative mindset to work effectively with others, learn from colleagues and take on feedback.
  • Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings, procedures, work instructions, and test documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work proactively and anticipate the needs of production.
  • A methodical approach to fault-finding and problem-solving.
  • Familiar working with systems including M365 Suite and Business Central.

Bonus if you have

  • A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related trade, or equivalent experience gained through manufacturing, production, workshop, assembly, maintenance or field service roles.
  • Experience in low-volume or high-tech manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working within quality-controlled manufacturing systems.
  • Experience working with a soldering iron.

You will enjoy working in this role if you:

  • Like building things and seeing a finished product take shape.
  • Enjoy working with your hands and solving practical problems.
  • Take pride in precision, consistency, and quality workmanship.
  • Prefer a workshop or production environment over a desk-based design role.

Why work at Syft?

  • Be part of a team building high-quality products that are exported worldwide.
  • Work in a modern manufacturing environment with specialised equipment and technology.
