Company: T-Shirts by Design
Location: Anacortes, Washington — on-site
Type: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Hours: Approximately 20–30 hours per week
Shift: Primarily late afternoon into evening
Reports to: Owner / Production Lead

Position Summary

T-Shirts by Design is a growing custom apparel decorating shop looking for a part-time Production Technician focused primarily on screen printing. You’ll learn and work across the full process — screen preparation, press setup and printing, curing, reclaiming, quality inspection, and finishing — while also supporting DTF production, equipment maintenance, packaging, and shop organization.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in well-made work, catches problems before they reach the customer, and wants to grow their skills and responsibilities over time.

In 2026, T-Shirts by Design was named New Business of the Year by the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce. We’re working to double the size of the business over the next three years, creating opportunities for reliable, skilled team members to grow with us.

Key ResponsibilitiesScreen Printing

  • Set up and run screen printing presses, including registration, squeegee setup, flash curing, and dryer/cure checks
  • Read work orders and confirm garments, sizes, colors, placement, and artwork before production
  • Mix and match inks and properly handle plastisol and water-based inks
  • Meet production goals while maintaining consistent placement, registration, color, and cure
  • Troubleshoot common print issues and know when to stop production and ask for help
  • Track completed pieces, rejects, and downtime

Screen Room & Pre-Press

  • Degrease, coat, expose, wash out, inspect, and prepare screens
  • Tape, block out, and touch up screens
  • Clean, reclaim, and properly store screens after jobs
  • Keep screen room equipment, chemicals, and supplies organized and maintained

DTF & Other Decoration

  • Support DTF printing, powdering, curing, heat pressing, and finishing as needed
  • Learn additional garment decoration methods as our services grow

Quality & Equipment

  • Inspect garments before and after decoration for defects, accuracy, and print quality
  • Verify completed orders against work orders before packing
  • Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on production equipment
  • Identify equipment issues early and communicate maintenance needs

Shop Organization & Fulfillment

  • Keep workstations and production areas clean and organized
  • Receive and stage garments and supplies
  • Fold, bag, label, and box completed orders
  • Stage orders for pickup or shipping and complete local deliveries when needed
  • Communicate clearly about production status and risks to due dates

QualificationsRequired

  • 2+ years of hands-on manufacturing, production, skilled shop, printing, fabrication, assembly, or similar experience
  • A stable work history and interest in growing with the company
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to follow work orders, specifications, and written procedures accurately
  • Ability to meet production goals without sacrificing quality
  • Comfort with basic math, measurements, counts, and placement
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform routine equipment maintenance
  • Reliable attendance, clear communication, and a team-first attitude
  • Availability for approximately 20–30 hours per week, primarily during late afternoon and evening hours
  • Ability to pass a background check and, if performing deliveries, maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred

  • Screen printing experience, particularly screen making, reclaiming, and press setup
  • DTF, heat transfer, or other garment decoration experience
  • Experience with lean, 5S, or continuous-improvement practices
  • Familiarity with color matching and ink mixing
  • Experience in a small-business or job-shop production environment

We will train the right person. If you have solid manufacturing experience, a strong quality mindset, and a steady work history, we can teach you the decorating craft.

Schedule & Physical Requirements

This is a part-time, on-site position averaging approximately 20–30 hours per week, primarily during late afternoon and evening hours. Exact days and hours will be discussed during the hiring process based on production needs and candidate availability.

Some weekend work may be available or required during busy periods and will be planned collaboratively in advance. Unsupervised and weekend shifts are available only after employees are fully trained and signed off in the areas they will be working independently.

The role requires standing for extended periods, moving between workstations, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, working around hot equipment, and performing repetitive tasks requiring hand dexterity and close visual attention.

Compensation

Starting base pay: $20.00–$22.00/hour, depending on experience

  • After 6 months: +$1.00/hour
  • After 12 months: +$1.00/hour
  • Evening premium: +$1.00/hour
  • Unsupervised weekend premium: +$2.00/hour
  • Evening and weekend premiums may stack
  • Total hourly rate is capped at $25.00 on weekdays and $27.00 on weekends

Employees may also be eligible for production-based bonuses tied to both output and quality standards.

Benefits

Benefits may include paid sick leave, employee apparel discounts, paid training, and other benefits available to eligible part-time employees.
