What they need
Overview
InfraTel is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer with direct experience in telecommunications tower design, structural analysis, simulation, and preparation of stamped engineering documents.
The ideal candidate has practical experience applying ANSI/TIA-222-I to telecommunications towers and antenna-supporting structures, is proficient in SolidWorks or comparable CAD software, and can develop and validate structural models. This role will support tower design, equipment-loading evaluations, construction drawings, and engineering documentation for permanent and mobile telecommunications installations.
Duties
- Design and analyze telecommunications towers, monopoles, telescoping masts, antenna mounts, and associated support structures.
- Apply ANSI/TIA-222-I and applicable building codes, carrier specifications, and project requirements.
- Perform structural calculations and simulations addressing wind, ice, seismic, equipment, and other applicable loads.
- Evaluate structural strength, stability, buckling, deflection, connections, and allowable antenna and equipment loading.
- Develop and review 3D models, assemblies, fabrication details, and construction drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or comparable software.
- Use finite element analysis (FEA) and appropriate tower-analysis tools; validate model assumptions, boundary conditions, and results against engineering calculations.
- Analyze foundations, anchorage, base plates, and, where applicable, ballast and outrigger systems, coordinating with geotechnical specialists as needed.
- Prepare structural analysis reports, design calculations, specifications, and permit-ready construction packages.
- Serve as the engineer in responsible charge and sign and seal engineering documents within the scope of the engineer’s competence and applicable state licensure.
- Review proposed antenna, radio, cable, and equipment changes to determine their effect on tower capacity.
- Work with fabrication, installation, and field teams to resolve design questions and improve constructability.
- Respond to technical comments from customers, carriers, permitting authorities, and engineering reviewers.
Requirements
- Active Professional Engineer license in a discipline appropriate to structural tower engineering, with authorization to sign and seal documents in the applicable project jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated experience designing and analyzing telecommunications towers and antenna-supporting structures.
- Direct project experience applying ANSI/TIA-222-I.
- Experience preparing signed and sealed tower calculations, structural reports, and construction drawings.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
- Proficiency in structural analysis, simulation, and finite element modeling.
- Strong understanding of structural load paths, connections, foundations, stability, and serviceability.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Ability to communicate engineering findings clearly and work effectively with manufacturing and field personnel.
- Preferred Qualifications
- California PE licensure; additional state licenses are a plus.
- Experience with tnxTower or comparable telecommunications tower-analysis software.
- Experience with mobile towers, Cells on Wheels (COWs), telescoping structures, and ballasted installations.
- Experience with carbon-fiber or other composite structures.
- Experience supporting wireless carriers, tower manufacturers, or telecommunications infrastructure companies.
