Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dependable Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and/or Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) to join our behavioral health and substance use treatment team. In this role, the clinician will maintain an assigned caseload and provide direct clinical services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders, behavioral health concerns, co-occurring conditions, and barriers to long-term recovery. The ideal candidate will be comfortable providing individual and group counseling, completing assessments and treatment plans, maintaining timely clinical documentation, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. This position requires a clinician who is organized, clinically sound, client-focused, and committed to providing quality, ethical, and recovery-oriented care.
Duties
Maintain and manage an assigned clinical caseload while ensuring clients receive services according to their individualized treatment needs.
Provide individual counseling and therapeutic interventions for substance use, behavioral health, recovery, and co-occurring concerns within professional scope of practice.
Facilitate therapeutic, substance use, relapse prevention, recovery-focused, and psychoeducational groups.
Complete comprehensive behavioral health and/or substance use assessments within professional scope and identify appropriate treatment needs.
Develop, implement, review, and update individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and interventions.
Monitor client progress, treatment participation, relapse risks, behavioral concerns, and barriers to recovery and make appropriate clinical recommendations.
Utilize evidence-based and evidence-informed approaches including motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, coping-skills development, and other interventions appropriate to the clinician’s training and scope.
Conduct appropriate risk and safety assessments and respond to behavioral health crises according to established clinical and organizational procedures.
Participate in interdisciplinary treatment-team meetings, clinical staffings, case reviews, and discharge planning.
Collaborate with medical and psychiatric providers, case management, behavioral health technicians, residential staff, community providers, and other members of the treatment team.
Coordinate referrals and continuity of care for clients requiring psychiatric, medical, substance use, housing, recovery, or other community-based services.
Complete assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, treatment-plan reviews, discharge summaries, crisis documentation, and other required clinical records accurately and within established timeframes.
Ensure clinical documentation supports services provided, medical necessity, client response, treatment progress, and continued treatment needs when applicable.
Assist clients in identifying triggers, developing coping strategies, strengthening recovery supports, establishing relapse-prevention plans, and working toward stability and independence.
Maintain professional boundaries, client confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times.
Comply with applicable Louisiana licensing requirements, HIPAA, substance use confidentiality requirements, Medicaid and payer requirements, and organizational policies and procedures.
Participate in chart reviews, audits, staff meetings, required training, quality-improvement activities, and other clinical responsibilities as assigned.
Provide services across approved programs and locations as assigned, provided those services remain within the clinician’s professional license, training, competence, and scope of practice.
Requirements
Current and unrestricted Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and/or Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) credential in good standing.
Master’s degree or other education required for the applicable Louisiana professional license.
Experience providing behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment.
Experience maintaining and independently managing a clinical caseload.
Knowledge of substance use disorders, addiction, relapse prevention, recovery principles, and co-occurring behavioral health conditions.
Experience providing individual and group counseling.
Experience completing clinical assessments, individualized treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge documentation.
Strong understanding of professional ethics, confidentiality, HIPAA, and applicable substance use privacy requirements.
Knowledge of crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and appropriate referral procedures.
Strong clinical documentation, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation while managing multiple clients and clinical responsibilities.
Experience working with diverse and underserved populations with professionalism, compassion, and cultural awareness.
Experience with outpatient behavioral health, substance use treatment, intensive outpatient services, residential/recovery settings, or co-occurring disorders is highly desirable.
Knowledge of ASAM criteria and substance use levels of care is highly desirable.
Experience with Medicaid, managed-care organizations, electronic health records, and TherapyNotes or similar systems is preferred.
Valid CPR certification or willingness to obtain required certification within the organization’s established timeframe.
Join our team and become part of an organization committed to helping individuals achieve recovery, stability, independence, and improved quality of life. We are seeking clinicians who are ready to do more than hold a title. We need professionals who are prepared to carry a caseload, engage clients, provide quality clinical services, maintain strong documentation, and actively contribute to the treatment team.
