What they need
About Us
Quilombo UK is an independent social-impact organisation (CIC) working to tackle inequality, celebrate diversity, and build stronger communities. We are independent and non-party-political, allowing us to focus passionately on our mission to drive positive social change.
Around 450 people engage with our programmes each year, gaining practical professional experience while making a meaningful impact. By volunteering with us, you aren't just building your CV—you’re actively contributing to an organisation dedicated to community support and social fairness.
Role Overview
Struggling to get interviews or land your first role because you lack "real-world experience"?
Our 16-week Professional Development & Volunteer Programme is designed to bridge that gap. Rather than simply observing or completing simulated tasks, you will join a working department, receive full training, and contribute to genuine projects with real responsibilities.
As a Programme Coordinator (Volunteer), you will gain hands-on administrative and operational experience within a supportive social-impact organisation. The goal is simple: when you apply for future employment, you can speak confidently about the practical projects you delivered and the positive impact you helped create.
What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)
You don’t need to know everything before you start—training and ongoing support are provided. Your key tasks will include:
- Participant Support: Acting as a welcoming first point of contact for participants, responding to queries regarding enrolment, arrangements, and programme resources.
- Onboarding & Attendance: Supporting participant registration, onboarding, and attendance tracking for training sessions and workshops.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate participant records, progress logs, and programme documentation in line with data-handling requirements.
- Operations & Scheduling: Coordinating calendars, meetings, and stakeholder activities to ensure smooth programme delivery.
- Materials Preparation: Organising and distributing programme materials, including agendas, handbooks, participant information, and completion certificates.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Assisting with collecting and structuring attendance, feedback, and outcome data for internal reporting.
- Communications: Sending routine reminders, updates, and key notices to participants, trainers, and relevant stakeholders.
What You Will Gain (Experience & Training)
- Real-World Experience: Work on genuine, operational projects rather than simulations or theoretical exercises.
- Stronger CV & References: Build concrete evidence of your responsibilities, project contributions, and workplace achievements.
- Practical Training: Develop transferable, role-specific, and administrative skills with support from experienced team members.
- Progression & Leadership: Opportunity for top performers to take on greater responsibilities and develop leadership capabilities over time.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from motivated individuals looking to build their professional skills. We look for:
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage administrative tasks and deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with a helpful, participant-centred approach.
- Attention to detail and confidence in keeping accurate records.
- Good time management and reliability in following tasks through to completion.
- Confidence using basic IT tools (Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office) and a willingness to learn CRM or programme-tracking databases.
- A genuine interest in supporting people through learning, employability, and community development.
Previous administration, customer service, or programme coordination experience is an advantage, but not essential.
