Programme Facilitator — Te Ara Poutama

Ki Tua o Matariki

Part-time — 20 hours per week
Based at Te Whare Piringa, Glen Innes, working across East and West Auckland

Help rangatahi build confidence, connection and pathways for their future

Do you have a gift for bringing people together and making learning engaging? Are you passionate about supporting rangatahi and young parents to recognise their strengths and pursue their aspirations?

Join Ki Tua o Matariki as our Te Ara Poutama Facilitator and deliver wānanga that support rangatahi to grow their confidence, develop practical skills and take steps towards education, training or employment.

Three key highlights

  • Facilitate engaging, culturally grounded wānanga for rangatahi and young parents.
  • Bring your creativity and facilitation skills to an iwi-led kaupapa.
  • Work 20 hours per week, with wānanga delivery on Thursdays and Fridays.

Ko wai mātou | About us

Ki Tua o Matariki is the health and social service arm of Ngāti Pāoa Iwi Trust. Our kaupapa centres on supporting mātua taiohi and pēpi to grow, thrive and be rangatira within their iwi, hapū, whānau and community.

Guided by Aroha, Manaakitanga, Rangatiratanga and Wairuatanga, we provide coordinated health, social and mātauranga Māori services. Our practice draws on the pā harakeke, recognising the collective care of mātua, kaumātua, whānau, hapū and iwi in nurturing mokopuna.

We support those who whakapapa to Ngāti Pāoa and extend manaaki to the wider hapori.

Oranga Whānau, Oranga Mokopuna.

Te tūranga | About the role

Te Ara Poutama supports rangatahi aged 15–24, with a focus on those who are hapū or parenting tamariki and are currently outside employment, education or training.

As our Facilitator, you will prepare and deliver weekly wānanga that strengthen confidence, life skills, cultural connection and work readiness. You will create a welcoming space where participants feel safe to contribute, learn and explore what comes next.

Reporting to the Te Ara Poutama Team Lead / Raupō Hōkainuku, you will:

  • Plan and facilitate engaging wānanga on Thursdays and Fridays.
  • Develop lesson plans, activities, presentations and learning resources.
  • Adapt delivery to different learning styles, accessibility needs and group dynamics.
  • Organise venues, equipment and materials so sessions are ready to run.
  • Maintain participant contact through weekly communications and reminders.
  • Record attendance, engagement, achievements and learning progress.
  • Use participant feedback to improve programme delivery.
  • Work closely with the Whānau Navigator when participants need practical or social support.

Your 20-hour working week will comprise approximately:

  • 10 hours of wānanga facilitation on Thursdays and Fridays.
  • 5 hours of preparation.
  • 5 hours of programme administration.

Ko wai koe | About you

You are a warm, confident facilitator who builds trust with rangatahi and makes learning accessible and meaningful. You bring creativity, preparation and the ability to respond calmly when a group needs a different approach.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A relevant qualification in youth work, education, facilitation, social services, community development or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Experience facilitating programmes, workshops, wānanga or group learning with rangatahi.
  • The ability to prepare engaging content and practical learning activities.
  • An understanding of te ao Māori, te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and the pā harakeke model.
  • A commitment to kaupapa Māori service delivery and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Strong communication, digital and administrative skills.
  • The ability to maintain professional boundaries and create culturally safe, mana-enhancing learning environments.
  • A collaborative approach and a willingness to reflect, learn and improve.

A full New Zealand driver licence and the ability to travel across Auckland are desirable.

You will also be willing to deepen your understanding of Ngāti Pāoa tikanga, mita, history and aspirations.

He aha ai mātou? | Why join us?

Bring your ideas and skills to a kaupapa where whānau aspirations, cultural identity and relationships guide the mahi.

You will work alongside kaimahi across health and social services, participate in supervision and professional development, and grow your understanding of Pāoatanga through shared learning and kaupapa.
