PROGRAMMING ROUTER

Responsible for creating and managing the detailed work orders job from raw material to programming to prefabrication, fabrication and finished product, ensuring efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in steel fabrication, heavy manufacturing, or structural steel operations.

• Proven experience in production planning, scheduling, or fabrication sequencing.

• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and shop operations.

• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and sequencing requirements.

• Experience with production scheduling tools or ERP systems (Tekla/EPM, SAP, etc.).

• Proficient in Excel and data analysis for planning and performance tracking.

• Advanced planning and organizational skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.

• Ability to balance competing priorities in a production environment.

• Effective communication across engineering, operations, and management teams.

• Continuous improvement mindset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain production routings: Create, review, and release detailed work orders for production based on engineering drawings, CAD/CAM files, and programming specifications.
• Coordinate with production planning: Ensure nestings are accurate. Collaborate closely with programmers and production supervisors to ensure ERP reflects accurate information. Return off cuts to ERP inventory with accurate dimensions.
• Optimize workflow: Identify and eliminate inefficiencies, balance workloads, and recommend process improvements to reduce lead times and costs.
• Quality control integration: Ensure each operation meets traceability, and material specifications and includes inspection gates before moving to the next stage. Verify incoming material meets specifications and has proper documentation.
• Collaborate with shop floor: Work with operators, welders, fitters, and quality inspectors to confirm routings are practical and feasible. Generate drilling programs as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

• Technical: Understanding of steel fabrication processes and shop equipment.
• Process planning: Ability to sequence operations for efficiency, quality, and safety.
• Software proficiency: Experience with ERP/MRP or job shop scheduling software for routing and capacity planning.
• Quality awareness: Knowledge of inspection points, tolerances, and compliance requirements.
• Problem‑solving: Skills to identify bottlenecks, resolve conflicts, and adjust plans in real time.
