Project Accountant

Essential Roles And Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain projects in the project accounting system, ensuring all required project and contract information is accurate and complete.
• Verify that contracts, purchase orders, work orders, and notices to proceed are fully executed and properly organized within electronic project files.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings and ongoing project reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Billing Support, Government Compliance, and project teams to support client invoicing, collections, accounts payable coding, timesheet reviews, and expense report reviews.
• Build and maintain positive client relationships to facilitate timely project documentation, invoicing, collections, and healthy project cash flow.
• Oversee subcontractor billing approvals and monitor subcontract compliance requirements.
• Support Project Managers with Estimate-to-Complete (ETC) reporting, earned value analysis, and other project performance metrics to ensure accurate financial forecasting and reporting.
• Review project financial data to identify discrepancies, trends, and potential issues. Make corrections, as directed by the Project Manager, to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Communicate project financial performance, unapproved work, and potential risks to the Project Manager and Director of Operational Finance.
• Prepare financial analyses and supporting documentation for project review meetings with key stakeholders, including Project Executives, Division Managers, Office Managers, Project Managers, and the Director of Operational Finance.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines. Participate in pre-task planning and promptly report safety concerns or incidents to management.
• Maintain established quality standards and contribute to the successful execution of all projects.

Requirements

• Experience in construction project accounting is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, with 4-6 years of relevant professional experience; or, in lieu of a degree, 8-10 years of experience in project accounting or a related field.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and overall computer applications.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams and leadership at various levels of the organization.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record may be required.
