Project & Site Engineer (Local & Overseas)

Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive, technically competent and hands-on Project Engineer to manage and execute engineering projects both locally and internationally.

The successful candidate will be responsible for project planning, technical coordination, site supervision, equipment installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.

The candidate must be willing to travel within Malaysia and overseas and be stationed at customer or project sites for several consecutive weeks, depending on project requirements.

Key Job Responsibilities

1. Project Planning and Execution

• Plan, coordinate and execute engineering projects from initial preparation through installation, commissioning and final handover.
• Develop project schedules, manpower requirements, equipment lists and installation plans.
• Monitor project progress to ensure completion within the agreed timeline, budget and quality standards.
• Identify potential technical or operational issues and implement corrective actions.

2. Site Installation and Supervision

• Supervise machinery and equipment installation, assembly and commissioning at local and overseas project sites.
• Coordinate site activities involving technicians, contractors, subcontractors and customers.
• Ensure installation works comply with approved engineering drawings, specifications and safety requirements.
• Conduct site inspections and resolve technical issues during installation.
• Be prepared to perform hands-on technical work when necessary.

3. Testing, Commissioning and Troubleshooting

• Conduct machinery inspections, functional testing, equipment start-up and commissioning.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical or operational problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Coordinate equipment modifications and improvements to achieve the required operating performance.
• Support customer acceptance testing and equipment handover.

4. Technical and Engineering Support

• Review technical drawings, equipment specifications, layouts and installation requirements.
• Liaise with the engineering and production teams on technical modifications and improvements.
• Provide technical assistance to customers and site personnel.
• Prepare installation procedures, commissioning checklists and technical reports.

5. Project Coordination and Customer Communication

• Act as the company's technical representative during site installation and commissioning.
• Coordinate closely with customers, suppliers, contractors and internal departments.
• Attend project meetings and communicate progress, technical issues and proposed solutions.
• Maintain professional relationships with both local and international customers.

6. Quality, Safety and Documentation

• Ensure project activities comply with applicable safety regulations, customer requirements and company standards.
• Prepare daily or weekly site progress reports.
• Maintain proper records of installation activities, testing results, technical modifications and outstanding issues.
• Prepare project completion reports and handover documentation.

7. Local and Overseas Travel

• Travel to customer facilities, factories and project sites within Malaysia and overseas.
• Be willing and available to remain on-site for several consecutive weeks as required for installation, commissioning or troubleshooting.
• Work independently at overseas sites while maintaining regular communication with the management team.
• Adapt to different working environments, cultures and project conditions.
• Be flexible with working hours during critical installation and commissioning activities.

Job Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

• Preferably 2–5 years of experience in project engineering, industrial machinery, equipment installation, plant engineering or commissioning.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and coordination skills.

• Able to work independently with minimum supervision.

• Good communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

• Possess a valid passport or be eligible to obtain one for overseas assignments.

• Possess a valid driving licence and be willing to travel frequently.

• Willing to undertake extended local and overseas site assignments.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Experience in industrial machinery installation and commissioning.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, gearboxes or industrial automation.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks or other engineering software.
• Experience coordinating contractors and supervising installation teams.
• Previous overseas project experience will be an advantage.
