Mō mātou tēnei - Our organisation

Universal Communications Group NZ Ltd (UCG) is a leading supplier of telecommunications network design, construction, operations and project management services. The company is relied upon by some of New Zealand and Australasia’s largest telecommunications operators to research, develop, trial and deliver new broadband deployment concepts, smart city technologies and bespoke IoT solutions. UCG works closely with network operators to optimise the performance of their existing and planned infrastructure and to ensure that deployments are delivered fit for purpose and future proofed.

Ko tā mātou mahi - About the role

This entry-level role within UCG's Project Management Office (PMO) is designed as a career pathway into project management. You will provide reporting, governance, analysis and coordination support across UCG's project portfolio while working closely with Programme and Project Managers. As your experience develops, you will have opportunities to lead smaller projects, gain PMBOK-aligned experience and progress towards a future Project Manager role. You'll receive support, mentoring and hands-on experience to help build the skills needed for progression into future Project Management opportunities.

Ko tō mahi – What you will do

  • Coordinate project schedules, reporting and governance activities.
  • Prepare dashboards, KPI reports and project performance insights.
  • Maintain project documentation, RAID registers and records.
  • Take minutes, track actions and support governance forums.
  • Work with stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership, while supporting Project Managers and leading small projects as your capability grows.

Na tōu rourou - What you will bring

  • A qualification in business, project management or a related field (or currently studying towards one), or equivalent experience, with a genuine interest in building a career in project management.
  • Experience in administration, coordination, data analysis, customer service or project support, ideally within a project-based environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to prepare reports, take accurate meeting minutes and build effective working relationships.
  • Confidence working with Excel and data to track performance, identify trends and support decision-making.
  • Exposure to project governance and reporting would be advantageous.
  • Excellent organisation skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with sound judgement and a high level of professionalism.
