What they need

InnoActive Group is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Controls Scheduler to support a portfolio of complex capital projects within the utilities and power generation industry , with a particular focus on gas turbine projects and associated infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electric utility capital projects, gas turbine power generation, and project scheduling , with hands-on experience developing, maintaining, analyzing, and managing complex project schedules throughout the project lifecycle.

In this role, you'll collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, construction professionals, plant operations, and project controls personnel to develop integrated schedules, monitor project progress, identify critical-path risks, and provide accurate schedule analysis to support successful project execution.

This is a remote position requiring periodic travel to project sites. Candidates must be comfortable working independently while collaborating with geographically dispersed teams and traveling to active utility and power generation facilities as needed.

Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules for utility capital projects, gas turbine installations, power generation upgrades, plant outages, and associated infrastructure improvements .
  • Create and maintain integrated project schedules covering engineering, procurement, construction, equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and closeout.
  • Develop and manage baseline schedules, schedule updates, progress tracking, and schedule forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Utilize Primavera P6 to develop, analyze, and maintain complex project schedules, including activities, logic relationships, milestones, constraints, and critical-path calculations.
  • Perform Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis to identify schedule risks, delays, dependencies, and opportunities to improve project execution.
  • Monitor project progress against approved baselines, identify schedule variances, and communicate potential impacts to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Support scheduling activities associated with gas turbine installations, equipment upgrades, major maintenance, outages, commissioning, and startup.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, contractors, OEMs, plant operations, and maintenance teams to ensure schedules accurately reflect project scope and execution requirements.
  • Develop and maintain resource-loaded schedules, manpower projections, and schedule-driven forecasts as required.
  • Analyze schedule impacts resulting from scope changes, procurement delays, equipment delivery issues, construction challenges, and unforeseen field conditions.
  • Conduct schedule impact assessments, recovery planning, and what-if analyses to evaluate potential project delays and mitigation strategies.
  • Identify and monitor critical-path activities, long-lead equipment, key milestones, and project dependencies.
  • Support outage planning and scheduling by coordinating time-sensitive activities, contractor work, equipment availability, and operational constraints.
  • Review contractor and EPC schedules for accuracy, completeness, logic, sequencing, and alignment with overall project milestones.
  • Integrate contractor schedules and project updates into master project schedules.
  • Prepare schedule reports, progress updates, milestone tracking, look-ahead schedules, and executive-level reporting materials.
  • Participate in project meetings, schedule reviews, progress discussions, and periodic site visits to validate project status and execution plans.
  • Collaborate with cost controls teams to support integrated project controls, including schedule-driven forecasting, earned value analysis, and assessment of schedule impacts on project costs.
  • Maintain accurate scheduling documentation, progress records, schedule narratives, and supporting project controls information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve scheduling processes, reporting accuracy, schedule management practices, and overall project delivery efficiency.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Professional experience supporting utility capital projects, preferably within electric utilities and power generation.
  • Direct experience with gas turbine projects , including installations, upgrades, replacements, outages, maintenance, or associated power generation infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience in project scheduling, project controls, schedule development, and schedule analysis for construction, engineering, or capital improvement projects.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Primavera P6 , including schedule development, baseline management, progress updates, and critical-path analysis.
  • Thorough understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling , logic relationships, float analysis, schedule constraints, and project dependencies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining integrated schedules covering engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Experience monitoring schedule performance, identifying variances, and developing schedule recovery or mitigation strategies.
  • Understanding of utility capital project lifecycles, including engineering, procurement, construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and startup.
  • Experience coordinating schedules across multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, engineering firms, and equipment vendors.
  • Ability to evaluate schedule impacts associated with scope changes, equipment procurement, construction delays, and unforeseen field conditions.
  • Experience reviewing contractor schedules and integrating updates into master project schedules.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify schedule risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and other relevant project management and reporting tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate scheduling information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment while maintaining communication and accountability across project teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically to utility and power generation project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly for or supporting electric utility companies, utility capital programs, or power generation asset owners .
  • Experience scheduling projects involving gas-fired power plants, combined-cycle facilities, combustion turbines, or other utility-scale generation assets .
  • Familiarity with gas turbine equipment and projects involving manufacturers such as GE Vernova, Siemens Energy, Mitsubishi Power, or similar OEMs.
  • Experience developing and managing schedules for major generation equipment installations, turbine upgrades, plant outages, modernization projects, or brownfield construction within operating facilities.
  • Experience with outage scheduling, turnaround planning, and time-sensitive construction activities within active power generation facilities.
  • Knowledge of utility capital project scheduling standards, project governance requirements, and reporting processes.
  • Experience with resource loading, earned value management, schedule performance metrics, and integrated cost/schedule reporting.
  • Experience with schedule risk analysis, time impact analysis, delay analysis, and schedule recovery planning.
  • Familiarity with SAP, Power BI, EcoSys, or other project controls and reporting systems.
  • Experience managing schedules across multiple simultaneous utility capital projects.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a Project Controls Scheduler who brings more than basic scheduling or project coordination experience.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience within the electric utility industry and gas turbine power generation projects , with a strong understanding of how complex capital projects are planned, scheduled, executed, monitored, and completed.

This individual should understand the relationship between engineering, equipment procurement, construction sequencing, plant outages, commissioning, and startup activities, particularly in environments where operational constraints and critical project milestones must be carefully managed.

We're looking for someone who can independently develop and maintain complex schedules, identify critical-path risks, anticipate potential delays, and work proactively with project teams to develop realistic recovery strategies.

Strong Primavera P6 expertise, utility industry experience, and hands-on gas turbine project scheduling experience are essential for success in this role.
