Project Cost Controller

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Cost Lead to support a major capital project. This role is responsible for overseeing project cost control activities, including forecasting, reporting, change management, cost analysis, and performance monitoring across engineering, procurement, and construction phases.

The successful candidate will work closely with project management and project controls teams to ensure cost visibility, accurate forecasting, effective change management, and timely reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead project cost control, forecasting, and reporting activities.
• Develop and maintain project cost control structures, including WBS and cost tracking systems.
• Manage project commitments, accruals, forecasts, and change orders.
• Own the cost component of the project change management process.
• Analyze project performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying risks and trends.
• Prepare and present weekly and monthly cost reports to project and corporate leadership.
• Evaluate the cost impacts of engineering, procurement, and construction changes.
• Review and validate contractor invoices, equipment logs, timesheets, and supplier costs.
• Support estimation and validation of quantities, labor, equipment, and material costs.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls teams to support successful project delivery.
• Identify cost-related issues and develop corrective action recommendations.
• Ensure adherence to project safety, quality, and reporting standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field with 6+ years of project controls experience on major industrial projects; OR
• High School Diploma/GED with 12+ years of experience in engineering, construction, project controls, or a related field.
• Strong experience in project cost control, forecasting, cost management, and reporting.
• Experience with ERP systems, including SAP.
• Ability to analyze complex project data and communicate findings effectively.
• Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting large-scale mining, industrial, energy, infrastructure, or heavy construction projects.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Primavera P6 and EcoSys experience.
• Understanding of accounting principles and project financial controls.
• Experience in estimating, forecasting, and change management.
• Previous construction site experience in a heavy industrial environment.
