What they need
Join Automac Engineering as a Project Design Engineer!
Are you a highly skilled Project Design Engineer with a passion for innovation and a flair for creative problem-solving? Automac Engineering, a leading designer and manufacturer of special purpose machinery, is seeking an exceptional engineer to join our dynamic team.
Key Aspects of the Opportunity:
- End to end ownership: concept and layout, detailed design, build oversight, installation and commissioning. You see your own work through.
- Creative autonomy: a genuinely autonomous environment where you make the calls on how a machine comes together.
- Modern setup: brand new commercial office in Pakuranga with the workshop on site, so design and build stay close.
- Diverse projects: work ranging from $5,000 to $5 million, across New Zealand and North American markets.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Technical Director, you'll design conveyor systems, packaging and automation machinery that is safe, robust and economical to manufacture. Alongside the design work you'll run your own small to medium projects: production drawings and BOMs, ordering materials, keeping schedules moving, and liaising with clients, suppliers and the workshop.
You'll take site measurements, oversee builds and commissioning at Automac, then lead installations and production trials on client sites.
Skills & Experience:
- A relevant mechanical engineering tertiary qualification
- Minimum 3-4 years designing machinery, ideally special purpose, conveyors, case and tray equipment or similar
- Strong 3D CAD, Solidworks and PDM preferred, plus 2D CAD (AutoCAD or similar)
- Experience managing projects and dealing directly with clients and suppliers
- Designing to safety standards such as AS4024
- Comfortable with the admin side: manuals, risk assessments, BOMs (Workflow Max and Smartsheet experience is handy)
Nice to have:
- A working understanding of electrical control systems for machinery. You don't need to be a controls engineer, but knowing how the control side affects your design is valued, particularly on high-speed automation equipment
What's on offer:
- $100,000 to $140,000 per annum to commensurate with experience
- Company laptop and travel allowance (if required)
- Tailored training and development
- A business with very low staff turnover and great tenure across the team
