We are seeking a Project Designer & Estimator to turn customer requirements and field conditions into practical equipment layouts, accurate bills of materials, and well-developed project proposals.
This position is ideal for someone with experience in industrial drafting, CAD design, material handling, construction estimating, or a related field. We are also interested in candidates who are mechanically inclined, enjoy solving practical problems, and want to develop their technical skills in a growing company.
Responsibilities
- Prepare equipment layouts, plan views, elevations, details, and conceptual designs using AutoCAD, Configura CET, and other design software.
- Develop layouts for pallet rack, shelving, mezzanines, work platforms, conveyors, industrial curtains, automotive equipment, and related systems.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, installation instructions, and existing site conditions.
- Perform material takeoffs and prepare accurate bills of materials.
- Assist with field surveys, measurements, photographs, and documentation.
- Research equipment options and obtain pricing, lead times, and technical information from manufacturers and suppliers.
- Assist Project Managers with cost estimates, proposals, submittals, revisions, and project documentation.
- Identify potential design, access, clearance, and installation conflicts.
- Maintain organized drawings, notes, vendor quotations, and estimating information.
- Revise drawings and estimates as project requirements change.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, installation personnel, vendors, customers, and outside consultants.
- Follow company design standards, procedures, and management direction.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, technical certificate, or equivalent relevant experience in drafting, CAD design, construction technology, estimating, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or comparable drafting software.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and equipment installation instructions.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to document project information and take accurate, thorough notes.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Ability to pass applicable pre-employment screening requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing or estimating material-handling, industrial equipment, mechanical, or construction projects.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Configura CET, or similar design software.
- Experience preparing material takeoffs, bills of materials, or project cost estimates.
- Familiarity with pallet rack, shelving, mezzanines, conveyors, automotive equipment, or other industrial systems.
- Practical mechanical aptitude and an interest in understanding how equipment is manufactured, assembled, and installed.
- Experience conducting field surveys and developing drawings from existing conditions.
- Familiarity with vendor quotations, freight, labor estimates, and proposal preparation.
- Hands-on experience building, assembling, repairing, or modifying equipment.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Occasional overtime, weekend work, and travel to customer facilities may be required.
- This position combines office-based design and estimating work with occasional visits to commercial and industrial facilities.
Training and Development
The selected candidate will receive product-specific and company-process training during an introductory 90-day period. Training will include field visits and time with our installation personnel to develop a practical understanding of how the equipment we design and estimate is delivered, assembled, installed, and serviced.
