What they need
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Project Director or Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of a large, high-value infrastructure project in a complex EPC-style environment. This is a senior leadership role responsible for programme integration, contract strategy, stakeholder alignment, and delivery across design, manufacturing, procurement, construction, and transition to steady-state operations. The project will be delivered under a FIDIC Yellow Book framework and will involve multiple contractors, specialist suppliers, and a staged delivery model. The successful candidate will be accountable for ensuring the project is structured, managed, and delivered with strong commercial discipline, clear interface control, and robust governance.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the overall delivery strategy for a multi-phase infrastructure programme, from design and procurement through manufacture, construction, commissioning, and handover to operational teams.
- Develop and maintain an integrated master programme, including critical path management, long-lead procurement, and interface coordination across all delivery phases.
- Manage contractual and commercial strategy under FIDIC Yellow Book conditions, including risk allocation, notices, claims, variations, and extensions of time.
- Coordinate multiple contractors, specialist suppliers, and internal project teams to ensure alignment on scope, programme, quality, and responsibilities.
- Establish and maintain a formal interface management framework, including interface registers, ownership boundaries, and escalation pathways.
- Oversee project controls, reporting, cost forecasting, risk management, and governance reporting to senior stakeholders and the board.
- Support the development of delivery capability within the project team, including staged transition from external support to local ownership.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality assurance, constructability, and delivery certainty throughout the project lifecycle.
About you
- Significant experience in major infrastructure, heavy civil, energy, or industrial projects.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-party delivery environments with multiple contractors and consultants.
- Strong understanding of FIDIC contracts, particularly contract administration, claims, risk allocation, and change management.
- Demonstrated experience managing programme integration across design, fabrication, procurement, and construction.
- Strong commercial and stakeholder management capability, with the ability to balance collaboration and contractual discipline.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and governance skills.
- Experience in building project teams, managing transition, and embedding systems and processes for long-term delivery success.
1. Why this role
This is a rare opportunity to play a defining role in a landmark infrastructure project and help shape a delivery organisation capable of succeeding on future major works. You will be joining at a pivotal time, with the opportunity to influence project structure, delivery strategy, commercial protections, and team capability from the outset.
