North American Renewables, Inc. (NAR) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Engineer to support the design and development of solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage systems. This role offers the unique opportunity to report directly to the Director of Engineering relatively early in one's career. This position is a great opportunity for someone with a strong technical background in AutoCAD and PVsyst who wants to continue developing and applying those skills while also gaining valuable experience on the project management side of the business. It offers the opportunity to bridge technical design and project management, providing a well-rounded role with opportunities for both technical and professional growth. The Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating and managing the day-to-day engineering activities required to successfully deliver projects on schedule and in accordance with project requirements.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop preliminary layouts and PVsyst production models
  • Prepare project summary sheets that identify all the key information in support of kicking off engineering
  • Track and respond to all Client comments and coordinate responses with the appropriate internal and external team members
  • Maintain accurate project document logs and ensure new or revised documents are promptly identified, filed, and distributed to the appropriate team members
  • Review incoming project information to identify missing, conflicting, or incomplete documentation and coordinate follow-up as needed
  • Coordinate engineering kickoff meetings and ensure project requirements, deliverables, responsibilities, and deadlines are clearly communicated to the engineering team
  • Develop and maintain engineering schedules, track critical milestones, and proactively communicate potential schedule impacts
  • Monitor project deliverables and follow up with and external engineering consultants to ensure work remains on schedule
  • Ensure team members review and incorporate applicable Client, AHJ, utility, and other project documentation into their designs
  • Maintain a running list of outstanding engineering items, action items, RFIs, and required decisions and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner
  • Assist with coordinating RFIs and technical questions between the Client, Project Management, Engineering, and external consultants
  • Track design revisions and ensure the project team is working from the most current approved documents
  • Identify potential project risks, engineering conflicts, and schedule delays and escalate issues to the appropriate team members when necessary
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering workflows, project tracking tools, and document management processes based on lessons learned from active projects
  • Perform job related tasks as requested or as assigned by supervisor or upper management.
  • The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing and other duties will be assigned based on the position’s role within the business unit.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in solar PV design work on projects 1 MW or larger.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel
  • Familiar with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project
  • Strong project coordination and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and document control practices
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with internal and external engineering teams
  • Proactive approach to identifying potential issues, schedule impacts, and project risks
  • Ability to track project deliverables and hold team members and consultants accountable to deadlines
  • Familiarity with engineering document management and file organization systems
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently while also effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing project requirements and schedules. Act in a way and use the company’s core values to guide your day to day decision making to build upon company culture.
  • Perform responsibilities above and beyond your specific role within the company when needed or identified as needed to further assist in company goals and objectives.
